backup lights on (automatics)

In the automatics, you pull the shifter to you and then down. I have discovered that if I pull it to me and gently release it, my backup lights stay on. Handy for work lights, (even though I have added two small oval 55 watt fog lights to the step bumper)
I posted a couple of months ago that my backups were on one morning after I started the truck and looked back outside, paniced: could just see it start backing up before I got there.
Never got around to trying to see why they were on.
Just wondering if this is a "feature" and others can do the same.

I just ran out and tryed mine and I cant get the back up lights to come on. Are you still in park when your lights come on? if you are ,the back-up switch is out of ajustment.

Yeah, It is still in park, I just bump the "back" side like I am going to pull it down and then let it go back to the front and they stay on. I guess mine is out of adjustment, but I like it like that.

Do your back up fog lights block the access to the trailer light plug?

Backup/fog lights do not block the plug. They are about the size of a hen egg or less. 55watt from walmart, less than $20 total, lots of light very bright, I mean bright , don't look at them bright. I drilled 4 holes in the bumper. The black piece on the bumper is held on by plugs that go through holes in the bumper. I was too close to one on my first light and had to trim some of the plastic stud off to get the nut and washer on the bolt. Also one wire is not long enough because they are made to install in the front. Needed about 10 feet of wire. Excellent directions, included a toggle switch, lights red when on. I used an existing screw down near the foot brake. I have to bend down to turn it on, very little space to add stuff(switches) in this truck.

Did you hot wire directly to the battery or did you go through the fuse box? Been thinking about adding some back-up lights myself and saw a $20 pair of driving lights at WalMart.

They came with a hot wire that had an open end washer that fits perfectly on the hot terminal of the battery, and had an inline fuse in it. I pulled my camper this week and they were not in the way. The light for working , packing , all that stuff is wonderful.

I've tried getting the backup lights to stay on a few times since the origiinal post, still works. Pull the shifter to you and start it down, look in the mirror to see the lights coming on, gently (but not sissylike) lift it back up and forward they stay on. I guess it is just mine because it is quite easy to do.
