Backed into a tree- need tailgate advice
Was parking my truck. I knew the branch was there, but my right rear wheel rode up and over a snowbank, putting the tailgate and the branch on a collision course.
Don't think it's repairable, anyone have luck with those $100 primered tailgates on ebay?
First real damage in seven years of ownership

I have one of those painted to match tailgates from ebay. I thought I was getting Chinese Steel but it turned out to be Taiwanese. Over all I'm very pleased for the money. Standing on the tailgate you can feel more flex than a OEM, well a lot more flex on the interior wall. Paint job was OK, nothing outstanding but a lot better than the beat up OEM tailgate it replaced. They are shipped via USPS as their oversized nature runs up a bigger bill at UPS and FedEx so good luck getting one pristine. Mine had the corner bend in just a tad. Not enough to get your panties in a wad or anything like that.
Save all your packing materials and list your banged up gate on ebay, someone will buy it...

Put a wanted ad on Craigslist.
Someone will go steal one for you and reply that they have one.
I'd go to a junkyard. There's a place near me that buys test trucks and cars. They run the cars at the manufacturing test track for 12,000 miles and then sell them on the strict conditions that they are cut in half and parted out.
Some sweet parts there....

Be very careful of the re-pop body parts, tailgates in particular if you use your truck like a truck.
Had a company truck that just recieved one of those "5 pound" tailgates.
1st step I took off of a loading dock with a bag of Portland on my shoulder sent me, the cement and the tailgate to the ground! It buckled right in the middle.
I'd go find an OEM one at teh junkyard.

I have a brand new, still in the box, plastic V tailgate. I installed it once on my 03, just to see if it fit. I do not need it to pull my 5vr, just as easy to lay my factory gate down. 2 bills if interested.
