Anyone heard this before?

About 90% of the time when I shut my truck off and the motor slows down I get a sound that goes "squeek squeek". I have no clue where it is coming from.

Yeah that is what it sounds like.......it is the exact same sound every time. Kind of like a tight belt or something

Mine does it, but not every time. Worried me at first until I searched around on here.

Mine squeeks, not every time, but most of the time. When it first started, I paid extra close attention to anyone turning off a 3rd gen diesel in parking lots and I noticed most of them do it. I wouldn't worry about it unless someone has a reason we should.

Sometimes if you let your truck idle a little bit longer before you shut it off it's not as bad if it bothers you.

Mine does it almost everytime I shut down, and has done so since new. I am at 78,000 miles now and still on the original serpentine belt.

It is the "Cummins Chirp". There is actually a TSB out to stop it if you must. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/09-004-06.htm

I like to hear it and don't want it to stop doing it. The reason for it is the Cummins engine has so much compression that when you shut it off...it STOPS immediately. The a/c, power steering, alternator, water pump etc are still turning at 750 rpms or so.....and that creates a chirp until the belt slows down to zero.

Nothing to worry about. Completely normal. It is the "Sound of Power".

Mine does it every so often. All the accessories saying go and the Cummins saying whoa is the cause.
