Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with aftermarket rims and tow/haul weights?

I see a wide variety of weight capacities for aftermarket rims, all of which are a bit lower than the stock rims and E rated tires capacities. Just wondering if anyone has had problems with cargo/towing weight with or without serious increases in power output...

I'm planning on pulling a 35ish foot 5th wheel with my 19' Lund behind it and I would really like some extra bling too... maybe I can't have my cake and eat it too....

Any suggestions in 17" that will or won;t fit or have high capacities are welcomed as well! (current favorite is Mazzi hulk, but am concerned about the 3300 capacity and how far out the 10" wide rims with 4.5" backspacing will be with 285/75/17's)

 

Most of the aftermarket wheels you are going to see are more show and less go, as you have noticed by the weight ratings. If you want something to really work with you need a forged aluminum like Alcoas, or else step up to 19.5s.

 

Or Alcoa's in 19.5" Can't miss with that.

 

Problem is they don't make anything I like that fits my truck!

Thanks for the input though... but I don't like the semi wheels look... one of those personal preference things...

 

Heard a couple years back that Mickey Thompson wheels were made by Alcoa. Never confirmed it but worth looking into.

The Mickey Rims, with the slim selection, the first one I looked at the weight rating was 3K lbs... so I would surmise that is they are made by Alcoa, it's a different manufacturing process... but that's just a guess.

In no particular order, but the Incubus Grims are my favorite.... not much options for E rated tires and I haven't found a load rating...

 

I'm pretty sure those are all cast wheels.

 

What's the pin weight of your trailer, your probably heavier than the stock rims & tires can handle. I believe the weight ratings for those aftermarket rims are higher than the stock Michelins that came with my truck. In either case you're most likely over the 21k or 23k GCVWR. I'm only 1800lbs shy of 21k with my 26ft toyhauler.

You really need to find out your pin weight so you know what options you have. I'm assuming you are fairly close to capacity which would be under the weight ratings of those after market rims. If you are over capacity those rims won't work and you will probably need to stick with your stock rims.

3500 GVWR- 9900lbs
4 aftermarket rims - 13200lbs

You just need to watch your weight over the rear axel.

 

Centerline's are made here and offer forged aluminum rims. They have some overstock specials. I don't see too many pimped out rims on there site.

 

Centerline Rims here, 3200lbs weight rating per rim. Lots in the overstock price like Danderson said.
