Any electrical gurus here???

Anyone have the Check gauge dash light come on while driving down the road? It came on so I looked at the gauges and low and behold the charging gauge was on zero....was getting a little worried because it was getting dark outside and didn't want to lose the headlights. Anyway to make a long story short when I got to my destination I checked the battery cables and both batteries had cables that were a little loose...I mean I could turn them slightly with my hand but they were not like falling off loose. Could this cause the check gauge light to come on? Thanks.

Mine had a problem with the Check Guage light coming on intermittently for just a split second. I had it at the dealership for another reason they reset it and it has been fine since. My amp guage was fine though....

You didn't say if your headlamps worked or not. Also di the truck die or does it still run with the gauge reading zero Is you alternator charging or not are your batteries charged or dead? These questions need to answered to help you better.

Dodgezilla, did your light come on while driving then finally go off?

SuperGewl, Truck ran fine, headlight worked ok but they did dim a little, not sure about the battery juice though....seemed like they were starting to get low.

I have had the same problem several times on my 01. Thing is running fine, sudden chech gauge light, and no charging. Shut it off, start it back up, everything works fine. Have not had time to track the problem, it has happened probably 5 times or so over the span of time since the truck was new.
You may also notice that the fuel gauge doesn't work when this happens. Funny thing is, when you restart it, the problem goes away, and does not occur regulary enough to be easily traced. Therefore, I leave it until I have time. Should I find time between now and eternity, I will go into it, and post results.

Mine would just do it while I was driving and as I stated, it would light up for a split second and then go off and not come back on for a couple of weeks. I have no idea what caused it but it's been fine since they reflashed it.......

Just an update, the check gauge light that came on was a loose positive cable on the driver side battery, Thanks to all for the help.
