Another H2 wheel question, but a different kind

Ok so I did a search and couldn't find the info I wanted, found a ton of cool truck pictures though.

My question goes out to the guys that have opened up the center hole on H2 wheels, what is the diameter of the hole after the lip is machined off?

Ok, thats smaller than I had thought. The reason I ask, is that I want to try a set of 08 H2's with a push-through style center cap that i have laying in my shed and some chrome lug nuts. The caps are 5 1/8" I guess maybe a machine shop could open them up if they will still be structuraly good.

Just wanted to try something different, I think they would look good that way and I like my lug nuts exposed.

You cannot open up the H2s more than about 4 7/8" or maybe 5" because you will lose the balancing taper on the backside of the wheel. This must be retained to balance the wheels on machines where there is a big cone that centers the wheel. Remember, the center hole is a clearance hole and does not have to be perfectly round or perfectly on center because the tapered area is used for balancing and the nuts are used for centering. Be careful and don't just start cutting unless you have the whole story.

I'd like to use some of those push through caps too, but the ones I have are about 5 1/8" and that's too big.

I was kinda hoping that with the removal of the lip that they would be big enough to run the caps I have...wishful thinking I guess. Being a woodworker I have access to multiple types of router bits and was going to open up the holes with a flush trim bit and then use a 45* chamfer bit to create an area for the flange of the cap to sit in if need be. Wonder if I can use a.....never mind

Ok so I found a cheapo set of chrome center caps from JcWhitney that measure 4.90" as opposed to the 5.125" that I have now, do you think those will work? I'd really like to try and make this work as it's never been done that I know of and it should look pretty darn good too.
