I am interested in replacing my stock 6 disc factory stereo and speakers in my megacab and I have a few questions. I have the 7 speaker Infinity system which in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired. I do not know for sure if it has the external amplifier or not. It does not have the navigation system but does have the sirius satellite. I have talked to several stereo shops and some say there is no problem installing a new stereo while others say it is a big hassle. I have the steering wheel controls and I want them to stay operational. I have looked at several different canbus adapters and several different steering wheel control adapters from Peripheral and they seem to have everything I would need.

Has anyone on here replaced the factory stereo and had problems? Can you bypass the factory amp if need be? Can just a stereo be added and still use the factory amp? Can I still use the factory sirius reciever with the new deck? Where would the factory amp be located if I have one?

I tried to email Peripheral earlier but for some reason it would not go through to them. Any info would be appreciated.

berettaman to help and answer some Q's....

1. yes the Infinity does have an external amp, it is under the center seat.
2. you cannot still use sirius without the factory head unit. You will have to get a new sirius tuner or get a new head unit with it built in......
3. yes you can just add an afternarket head unit check with [PAC] pacific accessory corporation or a company called Metra. The pro car audio shops use them. They have wire harness addapters and interface controllers for what you want to do..

4. Call me crazy but I think the factory Infinity sounds pretty good and I have installed some "monster" audio systems in my cars & trucks over the years, maybe I'm just getting OLD thou......
