I have noticed several amateur radio operators on the forum and I would like to hear ideas for mounting a dual bander in my truck. I have the six-speed and 4x4 transfer case to work around.

 

I'll watch this posting. I have the same problem, would like to mount my cb, but no real good spot for it.

 

So little room in such a big 'ole truck, for the radio at least.

 

Not a problem if you have one of the radios with the removable head. I have the dual band Icom and easily installed the head just above the LH upper vent. I made a bracket to angle it towards me. Piece of cake really. The rest of the radio I stuck under the drivers seat. It sits there happily with no support. Bought a small speaker at a truck stop and have that installed just above the shoulder strap bolt so that it is really close to my left ear.
I don't use the radio that often so used an old Larson mag mount dual bander whick I just stick on top of the cab when I need it. Wish I could drill a hole and stick a permanent whip on top of the cab but some of the underground garages I go into would wipe it off.
I hang my mike around the 4X4 stick.
The radio is connected directly to the LH battery with a fuse in each leg right at the battery.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

I hope to get a radio with detachable face someday, but currently I don't have one.

 

Here's a shot of my installation (rig details in my profile). Granted, mine's an '02, but you'll face the same dilemma; no place to mount the radio to. I used a RAM mount siliconed to the underside of the dash lip, clamped in placed until set. The detachable face plate make mounting very easy in today's "dashless" interiors. The radio and diplexer is mounted on one of the seat bolts on the floor.




I've since added a mike clip to the backside of the mounting plate.

 

I velcro'd the faceplate to my IC-2720 to the top of the steering wheel console. It does obscure the 4x4 light when in 4 wheel drive and the odo a little, but I can see everything else easily. I just put the mic in the dashboard hole under the radio. The main unit is under the drivers seat.

I wish mounting my Garmin GPS was just as easy - but for now the top of the dash is ok for that.

 

The detachable face would sure make things easier. For now, I'll have to stick with mounting the whole radio in one location. I keep looking at the cubby hole under the broadcast radio and wondering if there is some sort of plate out there for it. That would give a neat built-in look. A thin piece of black plastic might fit between the storage compartment and the center faceplate with a hole cut to fit around the dualbander mounted inside the compartment.

 

Here are pics of my installation. I hate wires trailing all over the place so have hidden everything and have tried to make it look as much like a factory installation as possible.

I know you'll figure it out, but you linked to the thumbnail instead of the actual pic.

I did not want to have my CB in all of the time, just for road trips. I couldnt find a good place to mount my CB and I didnt like the floor idea (i have a 5-speed). I like to see my CB while driving. I bought some shelf-liner at wally world and a cut a piece the size of my CB, placed it on the dash above the middle air vents, and has not moved in 1500+ miles. You can see the wires from the front of the truck, but no holes or adhesive anywhere. I also like the idea of being able to hide/remove my CB whenever i want. BTW, i have a Cobra 29 Wx Nw St and soon to have a Wilson 1000 mag mount
