alpine/sirius problems

ok i sent an email to alpine but will ask here too. my 9835 came with no manual for sirius operation, only XM. i have a DEI sirius connect tuner connected via ai-net. every time i turn the unit on and select sirius mode or change from CD or AM/FM to sirius, it goes to channel 184. i always have it on channel 17, if i shut the truck off and get back in and start it up, i'd like it to be on the channel i left it on. this would not be as big of a problem if the presets worked... if i save channel 17, or any other channel as a preset, the preset is erased when the unit is turned off or the truck is shut off and restarted?

sometimes when listening to the unit with the key in the ACC position and the truck shut off, the sound will just shut off and the unit will stop responding. i have to turn it off and on to get it to work.

i did the install what's a memory wire? the clock keeps its time when the unit is shut off.

i remember 8 speaker wires, power wire, ignition wire, turn on wire for amp and tuner, ground wire, and illumination wire. also ai-net cable and RCAs for amp.

I have Sirius in my truck. Can't help you with the rest of the problems, but the reason it will intermittently cut-out is because it is trying to acquire the satellite signal, you might try a more powerful antannae. Sirius sells them right on their website.

Go search this site and my troubles with alpine and Sirius, The Sirius tuner needs to be powered with 12 volts all the time not thru the ignition key, this should help with the station presets. Good luck. See sig below.... Clarion has worked wonderfully,

the signal is not cutting out, i am familiar with that. what's happening is the power amplifier inside the unit will shut off with a loud pop and the unit will subsequently stop responding much like when a computer freezes. this only occurs with the key in the acc position and the truck off.

i've read of your troubles and do not blame you for switching to clarion. alpine is still a good brand imo but this DEI tuner is unimpressive. i have the tuner powered by the turn-on wire coming from the headunit so it only gets +12v when the unit is turned on, along with my amp. i called alpine and they said this is not the problem, but to wire the red turn on (ignition) wire to the power wire from the battery and this will fix the problem? i like the unit to shut off when i remove the key, and this does not explain how the unit loses its presets when i switch modes to CD and then back to sirius with the unit on the whole time. i can't picture how either suggestion will solve the problem but will try them both. thanks for everyone's help.

I faught the same problems as you and can only determine that Alpine has not perfected the Sirius tuner that will work w/ a Alpine head unit. Maybe Xm is okay but not Sirius, i also got tired of the blame game that those two played agaist each other and for teh end user there was no help....

i too have the Alpine 9833 with the alp-1 Sirius unit , i have my alp-1 hook up to ignition power and i too cannot keep the preset for my Sirius in my hu .. the clock is good and my am/fm presets all work fine .. but i lose the Sirius one every time i shut the truck off .. but if i leave my hu on channel 22 for instance .. when i come back the next morning it is still on 22 !! i have been fairly happy with the reception and the way they interact with each other !! but i think Sirius misleads you in thinking it will sound better than it does !! like i have said time and time before !! the sound quality sucks

ok problem solved. the tuner needs constant +12. presets are apparently stored in the tuner, not the headunit. i connected the tuner to the power wire from the battery instead of the turn on wire and this fixed everything.

sound quality isn't great but XM is no better.
