Hair nation is the big hair bands of the 80's

Buzz Saw ac-dc, G&R dokken, all the good rock bands of the 80's that i grew up with and never hear anymore.

I compared the XM and Sirius and Sirius was heads above in the music I liked....

I also went with hard wired over fm for better sound quality,,,,,,, I like my music clear and crisp./.

i had XM for a week. i like jambands and XM's "jamband" music lab channel had none! sirius jam on is great. i just didn't like anything i heard on XM. to each their own. hardwired is the only way to go.

my 9835 just got here but i am apprehensive about buying the tuner. though they are still new, your problem with it is the first i have heard of.

i too have a 9833 alpine hu and i too just got the sirius adapter for it !! i sure hope i don't have the same problem as you guys state !! the adapter was the cheaper way to go and i bought sirius in the anticipation of howerd stern also (which doesn't start til Jan 2006 80( ).. is there anybody on here that has the alpine with sirius and is having success with the sirius adapter !!

well installed my sirius radio to my alpine 9833 was a very smooth istall and it was activated in about 10 mins was pretty impress with how simple it was . i mounted the antenna right beside the drivers marker light up through my a-pillar . it is raining here today and i found the wire where it goes from the a pillar to outside around my weather seal is letting little drips of rain in anyway i will have to figure out a new location i think ..

one thing i did find is it is not as clear as i though i would be .. no staic but kinda flat sounding .. kinda tinny .. not as crisp as a cd (even a mp3 sounds better )

XM is the same way. the stream quality is comparable to a low-bitrate MP3. congrats on the 9833, nice unit.

i found the alp1 at circuity city for 80 bucks, this should alleviate any apprehension i had of buying one on ebay and then having it fail.

well so far my unit is working flawlessly .. but you are right !! it is comparable to about 96 kps mp3 .. since i bought my Sirius radio i have been doing alot of research (i wish i was doing it before i bought it !!) and found that there bandwith is not even close to what dtv or dish network offer !! i hope Sirius soon changes their codec to offer better quality music but till then i will have to just deal with this ... i too bought my my alp 1 at circuit city for 70 bucks .. and being Canadian was a little tricky to hook up but you just have to fudge it a little !! heheheheh sorry had a few Canadians !!! heheeh

update

WELL , yesterday the wife and i did allot of driving around just to see if the new satellite radio had any quirks in questionable place .. well we went winding our way through the Fraser canyon and not once did it even miss a beat (just in the tunnels to be expected ) . so thus far i am pretty happy with the reception . like i stated before the sound quality sucks and the rotation of music is very high !! and those are the two thing i thought would be better than FM ~~

old thread, but figured i'd update. since installing my system, i have had 2 DEI SIR-ALP1 sirius connect tuners fail. the second one is 2 months old, it started cutting out and making lots of static, now there is no audio at all, just the text display. as far as i know the alpine 9835 is fine, it works perfectly and last time replacing the tuner fixed the exact same problem. i'm off to best buy to buy a 3rd tuner, will probably take the old one back using the new receipt. best buy sells enough junk at enough of a markup that i don't feel bad. there is something up with these tuners

well as you can see you have almost the same set up as me ... except you have a better head unit .. i have had my sir-alp-1 since the day before christmas and i have been nothing but pleased with it .. never even a hick-up !!! sorry to hear your bad luck .. don't lose faith , i think it is still the way to go !!! good luck with the next one !!! i might be me or is the sound quaulity better too .. maybe i am just getting used to it , but if there was a down side to satellite radio it would be the poor sound quality !!!

good luck
Gary
