ABS Controller shot ... anyone else?

This past friday was pulling out of the driveway when ... ding ... brake and ABS dash lights come on. No big deal. A few minutes later I hear a low hum coming from the dashboard??? Finally get to where I'm going and shut down the truck, but the hum from the dash continues. Pop the hood and the ABS controller is buzzing away! Called the dealer and he said to bring it down and they'll take a look.

Just got the call from them this morning and the controller is shot. 2500 km past warranty. New controller $700 and change plus labour. Dealer is going to cover it though!!!

Anybody else have their controller go or am I th only lucky one?

Gotta say that my dealer treats me great!

Ken

Got my truck Friday night, they had to bring it in from out of town, they just got it that morning.
When I went to pick it up I was told my ABS and BRAKE light are on, my ABS is not working, the part has been ordered and should be in today or tomorrow, only take a few minutes to put it in?
Not sure as to the technical aspects of what my problem is, I'll find out when I drop it off to be fixed.
Will also ask if it should be flashed (or whatcha call it). Less than 1000 km on it so far.

My ABS has been inactive for about 2 years. Electrical tape over the lights. Stops better without the primitive ABS system DC put on these trucks anyway.

Has anyone performed a brake job pushing in the pistons without open the bleader? This can damage the ABS.

Turned out to be a short within the unit. It's fixed now which is good. The bad news is that they did the stinkin' tranny recall so now my horn is gonna let everyone know when I'm hooking up the plow or the fiver!

I whole-heartidly agree on that. I can stop better than ABS can under any condition I've ever encountered.

Mine did the same thing, have been running with the fuse out so the pump won't run, it will run even with the key not in the ignition. You say it was a short and they fixed it, did they actually fix the short or replace the whole unit? My dealer want's about the same money to replace the whole thing.

Don't know about the 04.5s but there's a recall on the ABS ECUs for the 06 trucks. The DOT/NHTSA "campaign" number is 06V038000. According to the website, Dodge has not yet set a schedule for owner notification. There is a contact number for Chrylser posted on the website. 1-800-853-1403

Here's the link:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm

Once you get in there type in the campaign number listed above.

Roadrat, they replace the whole module. I had the same problem with it running even with the key out. Pulled the relay to keep the battery from draining, but figured I might as well get it fixed sooner than later.

Thanks for the info guys, when mine went i was way past the warranty. I posted on here about the problem but got no response, i guess it's kinda rare.
The 06 seem to have a problem with the front to rear balance on the abs where as with mine it's the pump stuck on, oh well at least it's tax deductable

When you pull the relay, does the speedo still work?

My controller went TU a couple of days ago and I just unplugged it at the controller. No speedo, which also means no odometer(not a bad thing), but also no cruise(bad thing).

I pulled the fuse for the pump in the fuse box under the hood, everything still works but the abs and brake warning light stay lit on the dash, i don't even notice them anymore.

After reading that you guys are pulling fuses, I did it in my '98.

With oversize tires, for the past eight years I've been fighting with the truck on harder breaking - it used to pull to whatever side had the higher crown in the roadway.

I can honestly say that the truck stops in less distance now and with no pull. I'll be doing it to a new one for sure.

Yeah, I pulled over at a gas station last night and plugged it back in a pulled the 40A fuse(it's fuse #6, in case ya'll are interested).

Got my speedo and cruise back(good thing), odometer works too(OK I suppose).
