I have had 3 Dodge's (02,05, and currently have an 07) with a 6-speed and this happens to all of them. Does anybody else experience the numbers and gear shift pattern on the gearshift tend to move and eventually go full circle around ? I try and turn the **** or the stick itself and it won't even budge so I can't figure how it's moving? And of course the shift pattern in the middle won't move either. Am I crazy or does this happen to anywone else?

Same thing here. Same with my brother's 02. Don't know what's up with it. I tried to pry the top cover out, but all I did was leave small dents on the plastic. That's ok, only about 10k more miles and it will be in the correct position!

 

Every complete rotation your supposed to do an oil change!

 

I don't think mine does... or at least I have not noticed...

The cap is pressed in a lip around the shifter ball. It does come out, you have to be careful prying it. Inside under the cap is the retaining nut that holds the shifter on the tower. The cap rotating is caused by residual vibration from the tranny. I took my retaining nut out (the shifter is threaded onto the tower) and glued inside the lip before pressing the cap back in. That will stop it for awhile.

 

Mine has done it since new. Dealer straightened it out for me once, and it just started all over again. Now I just ignore it. I know the shift pattern blindfolded and never even look at it.

 

mine has done it also, so instead of towing with it, i now have a b&m shifter handle, i know the pattern blindfolded as stated above, so i never look at it, and it catches unsuspecting people by surprise, that doesnt know our 6-spd pattern.....

 

I solved that problem with a Hurst.

Mine does it, but I ignore it. Once you know the pattern it doesn't need to be so visiable.

 

Had the truck since Oct 07, about 60000kms and the cap is still where it started.

 

I bought an Aftermarket 'Cummins Power" shift **** and relieved myself of the problem. It is funny watching the tire rotation guy get in it and not know how to reverse. BUT I do usually put a stick note on it to be nice. LOL

 

Mine rotates clockwise, I thought it was caused by the way I push on the **** to shift. Anyways, a while ago I pried the cap out, added a dose of RTV blue around the lip and squished it back together. No more movement whatsoever.

 

Put an Eaton/Fuller **** on mine.

 

Hey! Mine also goes clockwise. Wonder if they go the other way in South America?
