Talking

Went to RV Dealer today that sells 5th wheel I plan on buying. I just had hitch installed and they let me hook up on their lot. Seems I was concerned about nothing as manufacturer builds their trailers set up to work with tall pickups( axles flipped when built). Had 6 inches clearence which means there are places where I will have to use caution, but I'm used to that because my 01 2500 and my 28 foot trailer had same . Thanks to all for suggestions( even the ones that ticked me off)

i raised the trailer spring shackles as high as i could get them it was not enough so i lowered the rear spring shackle on the rear axle one bolt hole and weighed each axle i have 6.5" between box and trailer and 35lbs between front and rear trailer tires

When I got my fifth wheel, the (idiot) dealer was throwing a fit over the rail height. Yet when they setup my hitch (the B&W Companion), they put the hitch arms in their lowest setting. So I had 3" of clearance.

Being new to the whole fifth wheel thing, I didn't think much of it until I nearly took out my bed rails trying to maneuver in a dirt parking lot. That's when I pulled the hitch and moved the hitch arms up to their top setting. Bingo. Now I have 5" and the trailer is level!! It was nose-down slightly before.

I guess my 05 has softer springs than some... my pin weight is around 3200# or so, and it squats it just enough so that 40 psi in my airbags is perfect.

I can't wait to get a flatbed though... will make things MUCH better. Just have to find the time to build it...

Yeah, when I set my B&W up so the trailer was slightly nose high, I only had 5-6" of clearance, and I go into some really funky logging road type places...

Now that the trailer is lifted I have the hitch on it's highest setting and the pin box also moved out one notch. Trailer rides level, ton of clearance above the bedrails, and also the bottom of the trailer is up where it should never drag.

I was a bit concerned about stability with the trailer raised, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference (but then I don't try to set any land speed records while towing).
