2005 Dually vs 2007 SRW
2005 Dually vs 2007 SRW
My 1990 caught on fire right in the middle of our vacation!
The local dealer has 3 trucks in my price range:
1. 2005 Dually. 69k. Needs 2 new rear tires.
2. 2007 SRW long box. 77k
3. 2007 SRW long box. 58k
All 3 are basically the same price.
I'm leaning towards the dually, even though I'll have to put 2 new wheels on it, but am wondering if I should be thinking about the 6.7 with that new auto & compression brake?

I would vote for the 6.7L with the 68RFE Auto. When in the tow/haul mode with the exhaust brake on this is a beast. I have pulled my 2010 318SAB Cougar twice now camping and I have average 13 MPG when pulling, hand calculated.
The 6.7L engine has 350 HP and 625 ft lbs of torque which is way more then the truck you are replacing.
Just my $0.02

Especially if you plan on doing the deletes.
A 5.9 G56 combo is always a great choice too.

Get the dually.. I would hate to have to deal with all that transmission crap on the 6.7's. Also, if your worried about the 48re just build it. I'll put my 48re against any stock 68 any day.

I spoke to a qualified mechanic (my nephew) before I bought my truck. He said if he were buying a used diesel, it would be a 2005 Dodge 5.9L. He felt like it was the best year for the Dodge Cummins, since the emissions controls began to really come into play in the later years, and that particular motor had been developed and refined over about 15 years. He wasn't sure the bugs had been worked out of the 6.7L. The '05 5.9L L6 is rated at 325 hp and 610 ftlbs torque. A few hundred for a programmer and you are up near 365hp and 700 ftlbs or so (note that I have a manual trans) for towing, and even higher than that for fun (can't help myself sometimes).
On the other hand, I have been told Dodge did some refining in the personal comfort areas on the interior in the '06 and later, but I don't know about that. I vote for the dually. You can see what I bought. I'm happy.

It falls off sometimes.
