Question 2004.5 radio speaker/poor sound TSB???

Has anyone had this repair done?

If so, how bad was the sound?

My speakers sound OK but when you start to crank it up there seems to be more than normal distortion.

I'm not sure if it's the speaker wire reverse polarity problem or just the bad accoustics in the cab.

Does having the wiring incorrect make them sound bad at all volumes?

I'd like to at least have idea, I don't like bringing my truck back to the dealer for anything, never mind for taking the interior paneling off to get to the speaker wire terminals.

Thanks alot,

DT.

Which audio system do you have? The wiring TSB was for the Infinity system. But, I think it was for 03/04s.

I have the Infinity, in a 2004.5 2500 QC.

Not sure what the problem is. I wish they could throw a meter on it to see if it's wired backwards before resorting to taking the interior apart.

Thanks for the response.

I also have the 7 speaker infinity system. I took mine in for that TSB, they did not have to fix anything. My truck was built in June 04. I did not feel as if they were being honest with me so I went home and removed the dash center plate and the radio myself and low and behold they were telling me the truth. To get to the radio all you need to do is remove the screw located inside the trash bag hook on the passenger side. Be careful removing the cover as the clips that hold it on are not very sturdy. Also, the stock system is set up like this door spkrs are bass only, dash are mid's-hi's, rears are mild-lows. For the price of the set up it sounds like crap and will continue to until you replace the head unit and all 7 speakers. Crutch field has what you need in stock, they also have the steering wheel audio control adapter and spliceless speaker connectors.
