Real quick if you haven't already done the lube job a couple things...1st, wipe the zerk off with a rag and the grease will go easier. 2nd, I screwed up a few zerk fittings due to using the gun wrong. The end that goes into the zerk screws in and out to adjust the "tightness" on the zerk. Too loose and grease will push out of the fitting without going in. Too tight and you will have a devil of a time getting the gun off of your zerk fitting. That is how I broke a few fitting in the past. I just use a small one hand pump gun with the needle fitting on everything and that works well.

Umm, don't bust the seal or push out the old grease. Just give it a couple squirts and be done with it. It is sealed for a reason.

How do you know if you busted the seal?

The driver side to 1 and 1/2 pumps before i started to feel pressure then i stopped. The passengers side took about 1 pump. Does this sound normal?

I got a 1/8" coupler and hose that attached to the grease gun. the coupler snapped right on the zerk and when i was finished i pulled it right off.

Your doing fine. Just make sure you grease the joints every other oil change or so.
The worst thing you could do is not grease it at all.....

When in doubt...add more grease.

thanks i heard a hissing sound from the drivers side one, it was very very faint. i was just worried i might have busted the seal but no old grease came out anywhere.

how bad is busting the seal? will it eventually seal itself back up?!

by the looks of the needle size hole on the zerk i dont think they hold very much lube or i still had alot in the from the factory.

You worry too much!

The hissing is usually some contained water/moisture/air that is being forced out by the new grease/pressure.
The seals are tough and made to breathe a bit as they do have a memory.

I think you're ok, but I haven't greased mine yet so I don't know.

There should be a rubber boot that fills up with grease and expands, if you pop it grease will just come out at will and you run a chance of washing it out when splashing through water.... So you'll have to grease it more often.

The front drive shaft has a lube point near the transfer case and the tie rod ends are all that can be greased on our trucks. The rear drive line, ball joints and the U joints do not have grease fittings they are factory sealed.

The cardan joint is easier to locate with one front wheel jacked up just clear of the ground. Turn the wheel to rotate the shaft to the point the fitting is visable/accessable. Very little grease is required, that's why it must be done so frequently. Many dealer shop lube techs still are unaware of the requirement.

Ok, im sorry to raise an old thread here but I thought I would just ask my question here then start a new thread.

I tried for about 15 minutes today to locate the Cardan zerk on my joint today. I jacked up the drivers wheel so I can spin the shaft easier. My dad spun the tire and I was holding the light, I still couldn't find squat.

I even printed out a picture for a refrence point, it is the joint that is comming right off the transfer case right? I checked there and the joint closest to the diff case, nothing. Maybe im just to blind. We even tried looking on my dads truck and we couldn't find nothing.
