*****,
Welcome to DTR, If you would please fill out some info on your profile such as the year and model of your truck we can get you all the help you need.
If your truck is a 3rd gen then yes you will need to remove the dash to get to the "blend" door. This is a fairly common problem.
Hi *****, in addition to the above, if you use the search function toward the top of the screen, do an advanced search using "blend door" as your keywords and then filter to this section (3rd gen non-drivetrain) you will find a plethora of threads and posts that will cover the questions on this subject. If I recall correctly, there is a thread with pictures that helps step by step as well. Don't quote me on that though...

Ahhhhh.... recirc flap housing. Yes, the dash. But, if you have a good housing and a busted flap, you can just take out the 3 screws holding the fan motor in, then reach in and take the broken door out. This will restore your full flow of air. A new door can't be re-installed this way.
Heater Treater sells a replacement with a steel shaft and coupler. You can replace it w/o removing the dash but you have to cut the grid to do it. I didn't see a need for the grid anyway and much easier than removing the dash.
