New here (1st post)

OK, I know the exhaust thing is probably the most pounded on thing around here, but I can't find my question in any other threads. Here it is: Does having a 5" turbo back exhaust do any harm to the power band on a stock motor (I have an 05)? Are there any other cons to this setup? I know on gassers, too big means not enough back pressure which is bad. Is this the case on my motor? I could have swore I read somewhere that you shouldn't go over 4" unless yer puttin' out around 450hp or so. Is this true? Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, does it void my warranty? Don't even have 8K on it yet.

welcome,
a 5 inch turbo back exhaust is pretty big. in my opinion it's propably overkill on an otherwise stock motor, if your planning on making big power like u said 450 or more, than a five inch would be good. being that your truck is an 05, it has 4 inch turbo back from the factory which is more than enough for stockers. if u want 5 inch it's ok to put it on, i don't think it should harm anything, u propably won't see a big increase in power from just an exhaust but your egts will be decreased.

as far as warranty, i'm not really sure if it would void it. if you lose the cat, than definately. cat back exhausts do not void warranties but full exhausts might. it really depends on the particular dealer. some dealers don't care, some find it as a way out and will not warranty things anymore.

5" all the way back

An East coast performance shop,...I think their name was something like Jannety Racing,...or something like that, did some dyno testing on that issue with all other things being equal and you actually lose hp/tq unless your in excess of 500hp (approx).

Thanks guys. I kinda figured after reading this and that. Unfortunately, I already ordered the Edit thing before I had asked the question. It's not here yet. Chalk that one up to inexperience I guess. I'd like to see some dyno numbers on this issue. I contacted the guys at Jannetty Racing. Still waiting for a reply.

Your 5" will be just fine. If you go back and find that very old thread the results were inconclusive at best. It was a defueling issue and not a loss of power du to the exhaust. These are turbo charged trucks and when we dyno engines we don't even have an exhaust on them. They dyno expected numbers everytime without a problem. 5" is overkill but it shouldn't hurt the truck at all. BTW, fill out your signature so that others can see what your dealing with when you post.

Sounds like time for more fuel now.

Thanks Gypsyman. I was hoping I didn't waste my loot by getting all excited on an exhaust before researching the Edit thing. I'm not too concerned about "gains" from an exhaust. An aftermarket exhaust on an otherwise stock motor, will probably deliver very few "noticeable" gains anyway....save for milage/egt decrease. But, if I cause a loss of power/mileage by going too big... Then, yes, I've wasted my money. Ultimately, I want my truck to sound good, smell like a diesel, and maybe set the stage for some more mods down the road. Thanks to all who have offered their 2 cents on this one...much appreciated. I'll give the 5"er a try afterall.

You are going to love it!! I am always driving down the road with my rear sliding window open just to listen to the exhaust. It doesnt matter if it is below 0* or over 100*. I need to hear it
