15K miles and ONLY 14.4 MPG!!!
Kev94mx,
Can you be more specific about how they are connected? I assume they are attached in-line along the exhaust system????
If you go straight pipe/exhaust, (eliminate cat) then how would you "add" it back without having to weld it back in-line ?

What I have is a 5" turbo back system. I went with this because around here no on can bend or handle anything bigger than 3 inch. So no one could make me a new pipe. I wanted a new muffler and drop the cat and no one at the time would sell me a delet pipe for the cat. All you need is to cut the cat out and put a straight pipe in its place. They are more stuff and ideas out there now.
You guys that are having the milage issues may try playing with the tone wheel a little. Not nescasarily doing the mod but just loosening the bolts and turning the tone wheel counter clockwise as far as it will go and see what happens to your milage. There is a decent amount of slack from the factory allowing the computer to get some funny readings. My 6spd picked up alot of lowend power and appears to have better MPG afterwards also. I will have milage reading on my 04 after thanksgiving. If you are doing alot of hard of the line driving this may account for your low milage also. I drove an 04 auto yesterday and couldnt believe it started down the road at 2200 RPM. I was looking to shift gears as I shift by 2100 RPM when running empty. Sure was a strange feeling.
Tone Ring
Ok I just got the 04 and 13 and 15mpg not going to work. When you say counter clockwise is that from the drivers seat or standing in front of the truck? My build date was 12-03 so is there computer problems that I could have fixed for free? Also my over head said like 18.4 when I got 13mpg whats up with that? When I got 15 I had reset the aveage a couple of times to see what the instant would have been, but I had driven about 30mi on the hwy at 60 before I fueled and it said 22.4. Oh my truck has 109k on it allready.
With 109k I think that you are on your own. To adjust the tone wheel you are turning it counter clockwise while looking at the front of the motor. The over head is off on alot of trucks but yours is way out there.
Mileage with Slide in camper
Hi,
Just Finshed a 3510 Mile trip from the Portland area down I5 through Death Valley, Las Vegas, San Diego, Back to Palm Springs then back to PDX.
Hauled Lance slide-in the entire trip. Combined Weight 11550.
We went over countless 3500-5500 and a few 7500 foot passes, truck ran perfect and pulled most hills in 6th unless I had to slow down for road conditions.
Average Mileage for the entire trip was 15.2MPG hand calculated.
Overhead for the entire trip shows 15.9mpg.
Total Miles on truck Post trip 18.5K.
I do drive with a ligh foot whenever I can restrain myself but considering the performance of this truck I think that this mileage is awsome!

Bone stock and I do not use any additives.
Should I be using additives? If so, what is recommended for So. Cal climate and to NOT void warranty. I know of the benefits of lubrication, but will it increase mileage? I still have not broken-in the 500 miles of towing (only 200). I will be running the remaining 300 towing miles in December. My driving has been 90% city/country. 50 mile RT for work daily.
I do hear a ticking/clattering noise when started in morning - goes away after 5-10 minutes of warming up. Still can hear a little of it even after warmed up. Can't rember if it was present when new.
Thanks!

Hello, I am new here and my first diesel and first Dodge.... 2006 2500 SLT 4X4 QC with short bed...
I have not hand calculated but the onboard system is telling me an avg of 14.1 in heavy morning traffic as a daily commuter. Yesterday while riding out to my dads farm I hit the reset button and was seeing 18-18.5mpg on long country roads and cruise control set.
Next tank I will hand compute for city driving to work overall...and first trip will find the highway.
Hoping that in 20-30,000 miles I can get around 16-17city and 20-22 highway....but who knows...LOL. I forget the mileage when I stomp the pedal and that 610ft lbs of torgue launch me forward...LOL

Get used to it because thats as good as it will get if you drive the speed limit.......if you can stand to turtle along at 55 mph you will probably get in the 18-21 mpg range.............oh well way to go Dodge...........I sure miss my '96 it got 19-21 mpg at 75 mph........and was a pulling machine........had to trade it at 256K miles though, was spending too much money on the carcass.................
