IMO, which I have personally tried both, it sounds awesome with just a cat...now I like it loud but when I took the cat off it was loud and sounded great at idle, but when you got on it it sounded like total busted A$$! I couldnt talk on a phone anymore while driving either but the sound is what killed it for me. I have since welded my cat back on and am very happy with the tone/loudness.

My Cat was stolen last week. Someone used what appeared to be a cordless sawsall to cut it off. I made a police report and I'm now awaiting a new factory cat thats apparently 2-3 weeks out. I ordered a delete pipe and overnighted to the house so I could drive around town and I love the new sound. Just sucks that I have to put the cat back on

I had some dirtbags steal the CATs off a few of our trucks at work a while back. It appears that you can get pretty good money for them if you find a place that won't ask questions when you show up with a truckload of these things....
Muffler delete with the CAT in place sounds awesome. I wish it was so easy for us 6.7 owners......

1) Remove kitty and knock it's guts out
2) Trim edges so that a 4" pipe will snugly slip through the center of both ends of the kitty and weld around the edges.
3) Replace kitty and weld pipe back in. Once the muffler is removed, there is no drone that other's speak of as the "look alike kitty" now acts as a resonator.
This all happened before the first 1K. Love it!

I removed the muffler but left the cat and resonator. Sounds GREAT now. No drone at all (even towing) and you really do not notice anything at highway speeds unless you jump on it. But even then it just sounds good!! I will also say I did NOT want a loud truck and I am very pleased.
