There's no need to pay a detail man to claybar. It's easy and even fun to do. Meguires works very good for me and the spray smells like cinnamon!! Ha! It's amazing stuff, clay bar is. So far, no chips, scratches or even swirl marks like waxing does.
If my paint did what your's did, I'd be fried!!

Please don't say the GM Cancer Paint Days are back. We had a Silver Pontiac Grand Prix that got repainted about 3 or 4 times before they got it right, and the day we brought it home for the last time (we thought) the power company decided to replace a large wire on the pole, cut it, and let it fall smack dab across the fresh paint. So, it got painted---again.

 

I have Brilliant Black and I had the entire truck wrapped in a mylar film to protect it from everything so I would never have to worry about it. I am definitely glad I did!

 

I have heard of the rockers and front of hood, but never the whole truck?????

 

Yeah, I loved it so much on my Lambo, that I decided I would protect the whole truck. I am VERY glad I did it.

I try to baby mine and with 20K I swear I have more chips, dings and scratches already than I did with my old truck that had over 185,000 when I sold it and I tore up some dirt and gravel back roads with it. I try not to take the new one off pavement and I putt along if I do and it still looks like hell already. They dont make em like they used to.

 

I traded an '04 1500 that was black and the paint seemed to be very thin and was what I considered to be just OK. My new '06, built in Mexico, has a very good paint job in comparison. Very little orange peel and very consistant looking. I do think that the amount of hardener used in Mexico is more like a bodyshop would use, resulting in a paint job that is more durable when new.

I worked in auto dealers in the past and when the EPA forced changes in the paint makeup things got bad. We literaly had tree leaves leave imprints on paint if let to sit for a week or so. Bird droppings could ruin a paint job in a day. All because the paint is soft and takes a long time to cure.

 

well i guess for once im wishing i had something made in mexico. im off to the dealer today so that ought to be a bunch of fun . hopefully they will take pics so they can submit them to dc and get authorized to repaint the hood and roof. just sucks ill be with out my truck for atleast a week they said. truck has 7500 miles on it and they wont let me have a loaner or rental to drive, can you believe that? she also asked if i had the extended warrany...i said um no its still under the bumper to bumper factory, which she followed up saying if i had the extended then a rental would be included. to top it off she then told me even if the truck had only 3 miles on it i still wouldnt get a loaner w/o the extended. crazy we also have a lexus and even if you take it in for an oil change, they give you a $45k car to drive around in and dont even have to fill it back up. i guess its just a different thought process in regards to customer service. sorry it got so long

My paint looks good. It's 2006 that has about 550 miles on it.
I've had it two weeks. Bought in Oregon, and ungaraged.
Since yours had problems, and it looks like many others do as well, it seems like DC has a problem. Paint issues where in the news about 10 or 15 years ago with one of the other big 3. They had to recall a ton of cars and make it right.
By the way, when you are asking for a loaner, talk (in private) with the owner, not the sales person or desk clerk. Make sure he understands that you are very disapointed. Don't raise your voice.

 

UPDATE!!! its long but i thought pretty funny

well i just got back from the dealer and he took pics so ill find out in a few days wether this is the last dodge i buy from this dealer or not. they didnt understand why i wouldnt get the extended warranty until i told them i didnt plan on keeping it longer than 3yrs/36k miles. well i sit and talk to the service MANAGER and was picking his brain about the ULSD and the like. he told me to put ATF in my fuel along w/ some PS. i about fell out. i asked him wouldnt 2 stoke oil be better since it was made to burn and he told me they were the same. im still amazed about that!! next i asked the service lady to have the high idle enabled in my truck. i swear you would of though i asked her to explain the theory behind nuclear propulsion. she looked like a deer in the head light. then she started rambling on and on saying that isnt available on a stock truck. she was really thrown for a loop when i wanted my radio to stay on after i turn the truck off. well after i convinved her to ask one of the techs she came back and told me it was gonna be $85. "What are you kidding me" was my reply. well i decided i could do w/o that. so as i say bye to the SM i ask him to call me when they are doing a special on enabling the high idle. lol. he tells me they can do it for free real quick. i thanked him and waited by my truck. well here comes the programmer and a cool guy. this guy rocks. he did my high idle, radio, door locks. whatever i wanted he did. i started to pick his brain about modifying trucks and he told me what they can and cannot see/prove. very cool. i wish i had some beer or some cash to tip the guy cause he was great. so all in all i found out my dealer is diesel dumb but have some pretty cool techs so well see how the paint issue works out in the end. sorry its so long but i know there is some more but i cant remember it now.

Mines has the same feeling I have been in the paint bis, for a long time. So i thought i would rub it out something not wright with this paint or clear. Mine has no over spray on it goes back to the dealer to look at it.

 

Hey man....you should write the Dealership a letter thanking them for the "tech" that took care of you and the lack of "service" you recieved from everyone else. Make sure it goes to the Manager and the owner. This kind of crap just burns me when we just spent 40k from them! I hate bad service. Might want to start checking for another Dealer....you probably wont get to the tech next time.

 

i know. its sad at the level of knowledge that some of the service people have. i hate to say it, but in alot of my dealings when it comes to this women in particular she knows NOTHING. not saying that about all women, juts this one. and whats even sadder is that she has alot to do with what gets done or doesnt get done on my truck.

oh yeah. i remember what it was that i forgot....lately since its been getting colder, its rough idling and has got some white smoke. her reply to me was that i was gonna have to let it cool off so they could see it. this was when it was 75 outside. i told her that it will need to be alot cooler for it to do it again and then she told me i had to leave it overnight. what a genuis. why couldnt she take my word for it. she had no idea that there was a flash for it. the tech told me about it but said it would take 45 mins to download to i opted to do it later. i wish she would go back to new orleans and stop causing people headaches

How are people doing with the Mineral Grey? I only have 5k miles on mine, but I just did a 3200 mile trip across the country and only took one very small chip. It sounded like I was getting sand-blasted at times through Wyoming.

rsegall, I've got the Mineral Grey as well. Mine looks great right now. Mine was made in the US... Brett's ordeal makes me feel kinda stupid b/c I was trying NOT to buy one from Mexico!!
