06 Exhaust question

Is there anything that is required when doing a turbo back aftermarket exhaust to get rid of the cat? Do they have any type of O2 sensors or anything that need to be fooled like on gassers? Or is it as simple as removing the stock exhuast and installing the new one?

Also are these kits you guys using preassembled or do they require welding?

Nothing special required. Just make sure you get the correct length pipes. I would recomend stainless steel stepped band clamps to tie it all together instead of using regular u-clamps.

So they offer "kits" that don't need to be welded together that are quality? Not sure which brand I may go with, but I don't want to spend a ton. I just want a nice sound that is less restrictive, and won't fall apart.

we have installed many of the farm boy diesels,5" turbo back straight pipe kit's and a donaldson m090535 muffler from rider truck will give you a very easy nice sounding kit that will cost about $400. it only takes me about four hours by myself to install and no welding

I put one of these on my Ford. It took me about 2 hours total. I bet it takes even less time on your Dodge.

I helped a friend put one of their exhaust systems on a Powerstroke. IIRC, it was aluminized. Installation wasn't too bad.

aluminized

from thier site;

FBD exhausts are turbo back systems made with 16-gauge aluminized steel piping. The system has undergone the mandrel bending process to eliminate air flow resistance and maintain a consistent inside diameter. Get the results you demand for the price you want with the FBD Budget Exhaust Kit!

FBD exhaust tips are constructed of polished 304 stainless steel to ensure long life and an excellent appearance. These tips are weld-on; they feature an angle cut, rolled edge. It is the finishing touch to the FBD exhaust kit!

Take a long drive in a Ram without the cat first.

The drone in the cab can get old.

My b in law cut his out in CA then drove back to Phoenix and decided to put it back on because of the in cab noise.

At least keep yours so you don't have to buy another.

Tomm,

Thanks for the headsup. I don't know anyone else that has a Dodge really so I guess I will have to be my own guinea pig. I will keep my Cat on hand just incase.

If you want the truck to have a nice rumble, but no drone on the highway or pulling, just delete the muffler, leave the cat. (How long does it take for those to plug up anyway? Long time?)
Truck already has 4" exhaust, muffler delete is easy, use the band clamps as suggessted above.
I'd find something else to spend several hundred $$ on and just do the muffler delete unless you're really turning up the power.

Yup, and if you want to spend the $50 or so, Geno's garage offers a pipe with a hangar welded on it.
Now my Mega has a resonator out by the tailpipe which I'm sure helps keep it quieter, but what I've read it's not too loud either way. Sounds good, IMO.
