06 Bottoms Out Help

Hi gentleman I need to pick your brains my new truck bottoms out very easly (the front end ) my question is this is there a shock out there that is a spring over that might slove this I think I need more compression damping but I do not want to put a 2 in. leveling kit on it . just more control and may be with the spring over gain a little front end hight.I had Rancho 9000 on my 99 did a good job but think I need a little more. THANKS

Timbrins

Although I have seen lot of posts for air shock/overloads, I just installed Timbrin overloads. They are a passive rubber bumper that replaces the rubber wedge that is there now. They just barely contact up front, and while they took the wallow out of the ride, they don't overly stiffen anything. So far I am really pleased with them. The rear ones, do not contact unless loaded, so the ride is not affected at all. To be fair, a couple of those who posted and who have a lot more experience than me, took theirs off. I really like them so far.
Good luck.

I put on heaviest mopar springs up front, my trucks are always overloaded, the 04 is about 800 lbs over on the front, really helped stiffen up the front, has not bottomed out since.

My 06 bottoms out very easily too. I notice it every time I go over speed bumps in parking lots. It is very noticeable and seems like one side bottoms before the other so the cab gets kicked side to side. I was wondering if maybe I had Hemi springs in the front rather than Cummins specific springs?

My '05 used to bottom out a lot when I first got it. My fix was to get 2" taller springs. With the extra 2" added to the range motion, Ive yet to bottom out once in the last year or so since I got them installed.

I went with coilsprings.com. I kept the same spring rate as stock, since the extra 2" travel would be enough to get rid of the frequent bottoming out. However, I know the original poster said he didn't want a leveling kit. In that case, you could order the same size spring, but request a stiffer spring rate - such as 20% stiffer than stock.

My 05 3500 front has never bottomed out even when I've been places that I never should have been.

Maybe swap out the front springs for 3500 front springs? I'll check the tag on my front springs and we can compare. I think that they are the same but then again you guys with the 06's have about 700 lbs on me.

The 2" lift springs worked for my 98 gasser with the same problem but when hooked to my trailer the rear looked low.

I've been wishing I had a set of snow plow front springs for that reason. Rancho 9000s set on their stiffest setting really helps compared to the stock shox but makes the ride a little harsher.

I have a leveling kit and a heavy Ranch hand front replacement bumper with a winch. I haven't had any bottoming out problems at all, even with some light off-roading. I also have Rancho 9000's set on 7 in the front.

I wonder if they changed the spring tension for 06 model year to improve the ride or something?

Definately a positive vote for Rancho 9000s. Much better than the junk stockers.

Mine bottoms over speed bumps as well but I've never had the truck bottom hitting dips or roadway transitions. I've found it best to cross speed bumps at an angle and then it's not an issue. But this isn't always practical.
I've got the snow plow prep package but I don't think that it includes heavier springs. (could be wrong though)
I'd deal with a slightly stiffer ride for not bottoming out over speed bumps but I don't really want to raise the front end.
This is the number from my spring tags: (P)52113984AA

The front '06 springs are really soft and the factory shocks suck. When you put them together you get bottoming. Installing a stiffer spring will help, but then you'll be back here complaining of a rough ride when unloaded (not a shot at you, just saying it will make the ride stiff). A taller coil will help but it sounds like you don't want to go that direction, so I would say start with a quality set of shocks (I recommend Bilstein over anything else off-the-shelf). If that doesn't solve your problem Timbrens definately will.

Just a little something to ponder, I have 2" taller coil springs on my truck that are considerably softer than the stock springs and I can't get mine to bottom, even when jumping off curbs.

I just took my '06 3500 in last week for this problem. Bottoms out over speed bumps and several intersections . . . .not what I expected to experience in a 3500 suspension. They said everything looked fine and that I have the heaviest suspension they make. Told me I would have to go to aftermarket to stiffen it up. They took out an '07 and it was the same way. It is the only thing I don't like about my truck so far.
