06 AC Goes Klunk

Periodically when I start my truck there is a heck of a racket coming out of the engine compartment on the passenger side. Originally I thought turbo had the dealer look at it they found nothin and the other day I turned on the Ac after it was started and got the noise. Anyone else experience this it is quite loud and a little unnerving. Rig has 13500 miles on it now but has done it intermitently since about 3000.

This is a common/normal noise and has been covered on other threads.

They say it is normal. I have a hard time believing that when you turn your air on. You get this great big clunk sound. I guess it will be ok as long as the surpinteen belt dosn't break in half. My 06 does the same thing. Allthough a little nerve racking. I could care less. If it breaks. Warranty get's a call.

Mine seems to do it too!

However, I think it is the computer holding off the AC clutch engagement until the engine is stable.

Same here...

I never heard of anyone breaking anything because of that.
BUT, the vent door issue is another story. Those can and do break.

My '06 does the same thing and has done it since new.
The wifes Honda does the same as well.
Both only make a loud noise upon first application of the AC clutch when it's been off for a few hours. When either vehicle cycles the AC on/off there is not any sound at all from the AC clutch actuating.
I wouldn't worry about it.

What's the issue about the vent door?
I have not heard about this before......is this the flap inside the air box that directs flow to the various ports?

Yes it is. Unfortunately, the door design causes it to break/crack and therefore malfunction. Mine is good so far but from what I ahve been reading it seems that I may be on borrowed time.

Hopefully, the new door they have coming out by DC will no longer break.

I thought it was the fuel pump kicking into 2nd gear to keep up with the added fuel consumption when the air is on!

Both of my rigs do this also, the 00' didnt do it until i evacuated and recharged the system and the 06' has done it since new so i figured it was normal although embarissing. i have noticed that if you wait a few seconds after fire-up to turn on the a\c it doesnt seem to happen as often.

I find if I wait to turn the air on till the engine has run for a couple minutes, it lessens the clunk.
Letting everything lube up better?

My previous truck, Toyota Tacoma, did it, current truck does it as well.
