Heater/AC Blend Door Problems?
Heater/AC Blend Door Problems?
Just got back from the dealer. Experiencing problem that all air from blower motor seems to be going somewhere other than where it is supposed to. Got the normal make an appointment, leave it for a day and we will look at it. I tried to get someone to come out and look at it so I would not have truck at shop waiting for parts. Only then did the service advisor start alluding to it possibly being a blend door problem. I asked if they had parts in stock for this problem. He didn't know. Only upon further prodding did he keep mentioning the blend door maybe being bad and it taking 2 days to repair. I asked him how common this problem is and he took the 5th. I am just checking around to see if this is more of a problem than he might be willing to admit. I've got 25k un my 2006 3500. This vehicle is in commercial use, and as a commercial vehicle, a defroster is an "Out of Serevice" item. Any thoughts or experiences?

i can't see why it would be a problemm, but they had my AC apart to replace a evap, and they told me that mine had a crack in it. i find it hard to beleive, as it sits in the plastic heater core box under the dash, and is pretty safe from anything. but you never know. i told them that they must have broke it, when they split the box, but i can't prove anything. the part is like 30 bucks, but it's the labour to do the job that kills. get them to order that part anyway, as they would have had my truck for almost a week to get that blend door in.
thats too long as far as i am conserned, for a part that they should stock as it is probably only like 12 bucks for them .

2006 Ac
This problem is one of the most popular in all the threads from 2003-to present. Most common is passenger AC blowing ambient air. Mix doors are notorious for breaking and according to some, them & associated actuators are on a system wide backorder. Search this board and other Dodge Cummins boards and you will get a good education. Good luck.
....actually the recirculation door is the one that is failing most. If you have poor air flow and can't hear an audible difference between "recirc" and "outside" air, it's the recirc door. To make it work to get you by simply remove the three screws that hold the fan motor in, drop it out and stick your hand up the hole and you will usually find the door laying up there. Due to PPD (p--s poor design) the door actuator will twist the top of the door off. For awile we were replacing just the door which had a different part number, but now that is no longer available and the part you get now has a new door and upper HVAC housing. Pulling dashes on brand new trucks sucks!!
The writer sounded like he should work in another place. Your hvac consol could be the problem, as was mine. I payed for my own part $130. done. I saved over entertaining the fool who looked at it and more fuel driving to give him a second chance at it. Blend door tsb wow, well look behind the glove box and it will move if all is ok. Mine moved on one of the recir. positions only. It worked so it wasnt the problem. the doors break you would see it. The service writer I went to told me there were three recirculation settings and even showed me! My truck will not be in the hands of people like that. There tech checked it and under charged it doing his ac service and stated all working NPF... While the hvac panel was not moving the rec. door. and on the way home it would blow warm at trafic lights for over 30 miles. The story is even longer with the service mng. part, but why keep going with poor dealer service. I was a cert. master tech for 12 years and I could not get away with the service they do now. Glad to be out of it!
Joe, I took my 06 to the dealer today and was really surprised how upfront they were about the blend door problem. The service writer mentioned it before I had a chance to. Mine is the sixth 06 diesel this week according to them. Only problem is the parts are backordered! They wanted me to take the truck and wait for a call from them in maybe 10 days or so?! ***? About one second after I said its illegal to drive without a heater / defroster they say hey why dont you leave it here and we will call when its done and would you like a discount on a rental?! I think they have a big problem on their hands. Does anyone know if the gas engine rams use a vacuum system? I just saw diesels with this blend door issue.

Shifter- All use electrical motors. Just went through the same BS with my 06 Mega Cab Hemi with 5000 miles on it. Waited 5 weeks for the new recirc door, all I heard was excuses from DC and the dealer. This run around started in May for me.
Had to have the state of California mediation department get envolved. I told DC the next time I had to pull over to defrost my windows by hand there was going to be alot more to buy back than a truck.
This is a huge problem, after the mediator got envolved the part showed up in 3 days! The new door is in but now I have 20 degree warmer air on the pass side and rear vents. Took it back three days later, sorry the dealer said we only recorded 12 and this is acceptable by STAR. Call me a liar, I am starting to video tape this problem while the truck is in operation.
Dealer received recirc door FP# 5073962-AA. I asked to see it before they put it in and took a photo of it, the number on the pkg was 0573962-AA. When I got the final service record they listed 68004226-AB. I asked the service writer and he said the FP number was updated????? Thats not what my photo shows. Something is fishy, in June I had no air coming from any vents. The fan ran but almost vibrated the mirrors off! The dealer ordered 5073962-AA, after a few days I called DC and they said the dealer ordered an old part number it was superseded.

Thanks for the info silverbullet. This sucks, am getting more frustrated by the day. Cant pull my toys with a rental POS. Girlfriend would divorce me after driving across the desert without AC. On the bright side I will get lots done around the house labor day weekend!
Give this work around a try: Turn your fan to OFF. Then turn the "Location Selector" ****. This worked on my 03. If I had the fan on anything other than OFF, it wouldn't change. Unfortunatley, my truck was out of warranty, and my service manager hadnt ever heard of a problem with the doors. So I traded it off to them with the "non-problem".
One other thing it may do is give your service tech a little more info to go on when he checks things out (ie., electrical power supply problem as opposed to a mechanical break).

is this being a topper????
Well in some respect some of you have done a lot better than myself. I just have over 700 miles and i just received my back from the dealer for this fix.
BTW, I had to call 3 dealers in my area before someone would work on it:
1st dealer: First come first served, two weeks+ out with their current policy.
2nd dealer: no tech available to perform work!!
3rd dealer: 45mn away, but did fix truck (3days to perform work) and perform needed TSB's. I will have to give credit, where credit is DUE!! This dealership knew right away what the problem was and what was needed to correct it.
They did a great job and no rattles, a/c is cold all around.....

same problem 06' megacab
2000 miles on megacab 3500, i have the temp differences between the driver and passenger side, plus i have air blowing on my feet on either side of my console. dealer says it is normal. this is in the recirc position and the dial set to the dash vents only. is anybody else having this problem and if so is there a fix.
A/C problems
I had problems with my 2006 dodge quadcab 2500 CTD, the A/C was not cooling properly and the dealership added more refridgerant, this seemed to help. but I noticed that I have a rattle in the dash on the passenger side that is caused by driving at highway speeds, the rattle will also increase or decrease with wind speed. For some reason they cant get it fixed, I think they dont want to take apart the dash to check it out. I also have had to have the TIPM module replaced because the horn would not work at the time of delivery, and I also had to have the engine re-flashed to fix the extended starting problem I was having. I think its a good truck, but for some reason mine has some issues.

Joe, I picked up my truck today, they did have to R&R the dash to replace blend door with the new updated part. Took 6 days, looks fine, no evidence that the dash was out, no rattles so far, they took good care of me, cant complain! Hope your dealer does as well!
Mine has had the blend door TSB performed two times. The last time was about two months ago and it has broken again this past Friday. When it first occured the truck was past the bumper to bumper warranty but DC agreed to pay for 1/2. The second time it broke it didn't cost me but they killed the truck. Too much damage to list and it will just open new wounds so I am not going there. The blend doors are the new design but have now failed twice. It goes in again 9/19 for diagnosis.
