If I'm reading the part about the orifice correctly my 2006 should already have the better parts?

I had the blend door issue done under warranty 2 summers ago (a week after I purchased the truck).
Unfortunately my 16" fans are WAY too thick, so I guess I'm buying a new one.

Looking at the front of the truck it appears that there is barely 2" between the intercooler and the trans cooler. Would it make any sense to put a 11" puller fan to minimize any limitations of air getting to the intercooler? or am I way overthinking this? I was thinking of the be cool 75067 with 810 CFM: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BCI-75067/ I realize the 11" fan airflow is less. There might be enough width to put two in, but then you're at $200 for fans.

Another idea is to run a smaller fan up higher on the condenser where there is more available depth. I was looking at the Perma-Cool 19120. It is a 10" fan depth 2.25" airflow 2350 CFM, it is $73. There would be more airflow, but over a smaller surface area of the condenser. There is also a 10" summit brand fan rated for 755 CFM for $55 that I could fit a pair of.

I've got a cheap hayden 10" pusher fan on the front of the condenser on my Bronco, it makes all the difference in the AC performance when idling down a trail.

Well, I have to be different! I put 2 - 12" pull thru fans on the back side of the intercooler. 2 - 12"ers have more cfm than 1 - 16" and they are a perfect fit between the intercooler and radiator and easy to mount on the cross member in there. I used Jegs #52131 fans and 2 Derale relays so I can stage the fans eventually but I'm bringing both of them on with the AC for now - hot summer. I was worried about noise with the 3k rpm fans but I can't hear them at all over the engine. I like the Derale kits - the relay bases and fuse blocks are stackable but I switched the Orange and Red wires cuz I want the power fuse ahead of the relay instead of after it. I'm thinking about finding stats to sense ambient temp and turn on one fan on at ~70 and the second fan at ~80. I don't figure any fan is necessary in the winter, on defrost. BTW, the AC clutch wire is the dk blue w/bk tracer under the big wiring plug cover behind the left battery. I prewired for the stats. I pulled those wires up to the sensor for the OH computer temp and wire nutted them together for now. I haven't topped off the freon charge yet but I've noticed the air gets cool quicker with the fans. It's a good mod even if you aren't having the freon loss problem. Thanks all for the ideas! Craig

Craig,

What fans did you go with?

Thanks,

Mitch

Jegs 52131 thinline 12" fans. They are 2 1/2" thick in the center of the motor and taper down to 1 3/16 at the outer edges. I don't have a trans cooler so I have empty space behind the intercooler. The 2- 12" fans might be an easier fit in front of the condensor. Craig

That space is barely 2" on mine with the trans cooler.

The BeCool fan will fit just barely on the front of the condensor.

The Be Cool fan is backordered from both Summit and Jegs. I did some more looking around and found that Spal has a line of slim fans that measure 2.05" thick at the motor. They have diameters from 7.5" to 16" and cost less than the Be Cool fans with similar CFM.

I'm going to measure the space behind the intercooler more accurately and see if these might fit. Otherwise I'll go with their 14" or 16" pusher fan.

Here's a much cheaper and easier mod than what you're doing that will probably work as well or better. Put a shutoff valve on the supply and return lines to your heater core. Here's the link:

That won't fix the problem. The problem is the high side gets way to high and pushes refrigerant out. The only way to combat this is to flow more air over the condensor. With #5&6 being the cylinders that the pistons melt the most in there is no way I going to block the flow on the backside of the head. That's just asking for it.

The mod doesn't block flow to anything other than the heater core. It doesn't change the flow in the head in any way whatsoever. Your heater core sits inside the cab, under the dash, with all the A/C ducting going around it. It actually does help, but the nice thing about info like this is that you don't have to do it if you don't want to.

Has anyone found a different fan that will fit on the automatics better than the one that is back ordered?

I am in the same boat with my 03, had the dash pulled apart 2x's at the dealership, lines are freezing again......Getting hot on the passenger side.

I found the Spal slim line fans with a depth of 2.05". I purchased a 14" model but I couldn't make it fit like the other guy's 16" model pictured. The grille would hit the fan's plastic shroud when it flexed and the hood latch release would've had to be relocated. I'm going to order a 810 CFM 11" or 870 CFM 12" fan, I need to measure to see if I really need the slim line or if the medium 2.48" thick medium profile 1230 CFM would fit. Here is the 12" slim line:

I'd even consider the 708 CFM 9" curved blade fan to keep the noise down. I've got a dinky little 10" fan on my Bronco that works great with the AC.
