03 cummins purch help

Hi all. I am new to the site. I am planning on purchasing a 03 cummins 600 HO
60,600 miles, ST package. Warranty till 2010 w/ Dodge, and warranty till 2013 w/ cummins. Any reasons NOT to buy or TO buy this truck. I am unfamiliar with these trucks and could use any input. Thanks ahead to all !!! Also how do transfer warranty(at dodge dealership ?, the guy says he doesnt have warranty papers.)Has clean title in hand.

Well you need to verify that any extended warranty is transferable. Don't think the standard Cummins engine warranty will extend to 10 years. Take the VIN number to a Dodge Dealer and have them run it for build info and any warranty information they can give you.

Those are great trucks. If taken care of (ask for maintenance records) and the price is right, do it!

Welcome to DTR. The '03 HO is rated at 305HP, 555 Tq. Check the lable on the driver's side of the valve cover for details. If it states 235/460, then it is the SO built for California. 600 came out in 04.5, IIRC.

Ditto RamWheels on the warranty. Some things to check out though;
  • HVAC - Notorious for busting the Recirculation Door. Things to check for: 1, look into the 'grill' behind the glove box from under the dash as you swich the recirc back and forth with the fan on med. Does the door move or does the fan run and hardly any air coming out the vents? 2, put the HVAC though all the paces, does it push air where you point it, does it cool on AC, does it cool the driver's side more than the passenger side, does the heat go up/down incrementally as you change the temp?
  • Alternator bracket; is it cast (prob replaced on recall) or is it stamped and cracked?
  • Original Lift Pump is on the back of the fuel filter, has it been replaced with the in-tank version?
Man, if I could go back to '03 and change anything when I made my purchase, I'd buy an extra parking brake pedal rubber pad. Mine wore out after about 120k miles. Love the truck.

You can go to http://www.dodge.com/en/service_contracts/ and enter the VIN and get a copy of the service contract if you don't have it. Transfer fee is $50. Don't let them charge you more than that.
