$1000 to fix windshield wipers - TIPM

Hey everybody, I just thought this experience should be logged here in case somebody else has the same problem.....

My wipers were working fine in a big rain storm, then I parked my truck at a friends house for a few hours. When I got back in, the wipers didn't work at all, except on the highest setting and they were extremely slow. Eventually they quit completely.

Long story short - the wiper motor went bad and took out the TIPM. The TIPM was $737 plus tax and 1.3 book hours of labor at $95/hr. (The job took a good 20-30 minutes......) Also, a $50 aftermarket wiper motor that got installed before the TIPM (so we didn't fry the new one!)

I know I could've wired up a $5 switch to run the wipers, but I plan on having the truck a long time and I want to keep it how it came - for better or for worse.

That's a lot of money, isn't it?

My son is working with Chrysler right now. The TIPM on his 2007 Dodge Caliber went bad and they are looking at helping him with the cost. In his case, it was the headlights that went. Seems like Chrysler should be doing something to help loyal customers with something that is clearly a design flaw.

They don't know what a loyal customer is.

I just had problem with my headlights, I used my buddies superchips and also changed computer setting and it fixed my problem. Apparently this film can be reset six times before you have to buy new

Highway Robbery

The $737 part is rediculous. $1200 to fix one of the most vital pieces of the truck when Dodge knows about the engineering flaws. Why isn't Dodge discounting these parts? I am having the same issue right now and found the part for $486.20 on dodgepartsmopar.com. My wipers went from very slow on high speed to stopped on high speed. I replaced the wiper motor and it went back to working very slow at high speed. The TIPM is the 4"x9" fuse box on the drivers side. My part number is for the TIPM is 56049891AR, they are saying it has to be vin specific. I have read on here people are using ones out of the junk yard with no problems.

Does anyone know if I can replace mine with a totally integrated power module off of a 04 or 05? A dealer in Cincinnasti said $1000 to fix plus $200 for diagnosis. Dodge needs to recall the 06 model for this TIPM or somebody is going to get killed when their wipers go out during heavy rains or turn signal indicates the wrong direction. I have read about jumping wires on the circuit board where corrosion is occuring but am not sure if this will work.
