I learned a lesson today
In the continual upgrade of my 6.7 and the quest for MPG. . .
I installed a Shibby Engineering Grid heater delete last spring, and lost close to 4 MPG. Bewildered, I took the truck on a 5000 with it like that. Cost me allot more than it should have. When I came back, I was asked to Beta test a new device, which has been referred to snake oil. Well I picked up 2 MPG with that alone. (Please don't shoot me Lary )
Going back and forth with Shibby and the "snake oil" manufacture, we concluded my volume of air has changed the flow characteristics in the S & B intake and my Shibby Stage 1 air horn. We concluded there is too much turbulance so the MAP and the MAF weren't reading correctly. This was causing the truck to fuel more and waste fuel.
So we concluded to reinstall the factory tuned air box, and change the air horn to a Shibby Stage 2. First came the air box. I had smoke go down immediately with my Black Maxx on Hot. That was easy. Then today I put the air horn in.
I knew the Stage 2 was always better than the Stage 1, but I needed to keep the EGR valve. That Stage 1 serviced me well for almost 2 years. But with the installation of the Stage 2, it's a whole different truck now.
It's a 6.7 Mod well worth doing. Not only does it run better, my Lie-o-meter actually went up a 1/10 in 4 miles.
Next item on the list.
Better flowing stealth exhaust
The Moral is, after market isn't always better in some places.

For some reason, in the back of my mind, I knew aftermarket intakes were a waste. That is unless your running compounds, 120 hp injectors, ported head, 6" exhaust.
