OK, I've learned my lesson . . .
Dropped my truck off at the dealer today and ordered the sched A 15k maintenance (basically LOF, fuel filter, air filter if needed and tire rotation). Estimate is $303! . . . and that's with a $69 coupon for the LOF.
I am definitely going to learn how to change the fuel filter myself. He said that alone was $140.

Neil, something doesn't sound right there. Last service (10K) I had oil/filter/air filter/AND fuel filter all changed, and the TOTAL bill was less than $140.00 (I'll have to check the receipt later), so something is very wrong there.
He should at LEAST have bought you dinner before he, well, you know....

My dealer does diesel oil changes/lub for 26.95, a great deal. I ask what it would cost to do the fuel filter last time in. Think it was close to $100 with labor. I doubt it is harder than a 2 gen, cause even I can change the fuel filter in less than 10 minutes.

Well, I picked it up at lunch . . .
Came in under the estimate . . . total bill was around $230.
They knocked off half of the rotate/balance charge because they didn't have the proper adapter for my wheels/tires (all stock, of course) for their balancer - so all I got was a rotation. What kind of business are they in?
They ended up replacing the air filter. I'm not sure why (filter minder said it was OK), but it was pretty cheap so I didn't mind.
I checked the invoice and the total bill parts/labor for the fuel filter was $124. I'm definitely gonna learn to do this one myself if it really only takes 10 min.
This truck doesn't work at all. I think I'm gonna wait on the diff and trans service and take it somewhere else when it's time. I think I'll take it to a real transmission shop for that.
They couldn't hear the door rattle/buzz (big SURPRISE) . . . so I'll end up doing that one myself.

My *********** wants $38 for the filter alone. I made the mistake of not asking what it cost to change the filter on my first service and got charged $75 for the labor. I had actually asked the service writer if I could see the filter just to see how dirty it was. he walked me into the shop so I could see it and they had not pulled it yet. I waited and watched. Took all of 5 minutes to pull, show me the filter, and then install new one. When I got the bill I never said a word. I felt like it was my fault for not asking. I since have started going to my local cummins dealer to get my $10 filter and change it myself.

Man that is absolutley ridiculus. Then they wonder why they get bad revues on their service questionare. I get Fleetgaurd fuel filters at a local diesel repair shop for $15.00 & can change it out in 10 min tops.
