i just ordered this piece from zz it deletes the intake horn, and plan on putting it on along with port and polishing the heads and doing a 3 angle valve job.

How much does that unit cost? I like the NOS spray bars built into it. It looks really beefy and I like the instructions they have on their page on installation.
I wonder what kind of benefit that would have on a moderately built Cummins?

Most of the dyno results I've heard of have been less than ahh... worthwhile. Apart from the integral spray bars for your favorite chemical, it's the same basic design as Cummins'. Of course, machining the head to accept it certainly provides easier access to the intake side of the head for porting purposes, but the exhaust side benefits more from that anyhow.
IMO, machining off the head's intake plenum is worthwhile only if the new piece is a revolutionary design, instead of an evolutionary one.

My thoughts exactly. Most people who have had intake side head work done will agree that unless each individual pony is on the line its not worth it. Guys like Hogue do stuff like this on the project x truck so people think its nessecary. When in reality a simple exh. port job will net close to the same numbers. I spent along time reading about this over at compd and thats what I found to be the general rule of thumb.
Someday I might do it just to have my own results but that would be with me building the intake and a friend doing the machine work on tha cheap.

I did 921 without any head work besides studs. I have been told by a few good builders that is not needed. One guy had his done and lost power so take it for what its work. Every setup is different but that is what I have been told.
Yeah, I doubt these intakes are even needed. Lloyd lays down big HP like you and he is running a stock intake horn even.
When guys like Llyod, Tim B, and Sloverado are pushing huge #s without it I have to wonder about its benifits. But at the same time Im not nay saying or bashing if you want one do it. If anything it would really set your truck apart from the rest, Ive never seen one installed

The CR head flows very well, any gains made from porting are negligable. All the maniflod does is to allow access for porting the runners. I have seen less than a 10% improvement in overall power output, from porting.
well we will see... i guess it cant hurt and it will look different. it will be done at the same time as my new twins(sloverado's old set), new fluxes, and the port work so i really wont know if there is any increase from it.
How are you doing? You remember talking down at the diesel nationals last year? That is a pretty fancy setup! I hope it works out for you . Did you ever figure out your fueling issues? Your truck is awesome ,I hope you get it all worked out.
