Question Worth pulling silencer ring?

First of all id like to introduce myself as a new comer. Being new to the diesel world I'am finding these forums unbeleivably helpfull. My question is " Is it worth while to pull the silencer ring if iam already running an AFE stage 2 intake with tube. Will it whistle any louder than now? Thanks in advance guys!!

Welcome to the Forum!!!
IMO The sound of the Afe Stage II with the silencer ring is perfect, without the ring the pitch gets to high.
The good news is that if you do it and do not like it, you can put it back in a matter of minutes... so give it a try. Please finish your signature so we see what you got.

My buddy has a 05 5.9 with the AFE stage II and his turbo sounded good with the intake.
Then we had some spare time on a weekend and I said "lets try to get your silencer ring out."
Well we did and he is NOT going to put it back in. It sounds awesome!!
Sweet turbo whine!!!!!
Wish I could get that sound out of my 6.7

A couple of guys on other sites tell me they seen a 1-1.5mpg fuel increase after they pulled theirs. Could this be possible? I have my doubts!

Welcome Mega.

I have not good answers for you other than from what I have heard it silencer ring only changes the sound (possible the warrenty seeing you have an 07)

It is a good question for a newbie post....of course your next will be:

Will smarty hurt the trans?
So can I really get 8 gallons (32L for you folk) by putting in a tank vent?
So what's the deal with straight piping.
How can I hide the truck part bills from my wife (no really dear..nitrous will help stop all that darn smoke)?

I bet they also got an extra 100hp from it too, right?

Seriously though, it has no effect on performance or mileage. All it really does it help cut down on the very high pitch frequencies put out by the turbo. I don't really like the sound of dog whistles, so mine is still installed.

Wow must be nice having a wife that actually likes something about your truck....only time my wife likes the truck is when were passing every other truck and trailer on the road.

I guess maybe it's the payment she really doesn't like. Or maybe the fact that I spend more time under my truck instead of under her.

There's no such thing as a turbo thats too loud. take that dang thing out and let her sing..... plus like jrussell said, you'll prolly get an extra 100 hp out of it lol.
