Question Wish List Attached -- Need Advice!

Here's my objective:

A device (downloader or box) that:

1) Gives me a decent & safe power increase (more is ok but I'd select the middle / low end option)

2) Significantly / measurably increases fuel economy

3) Allows me to calibrate my speedo

4) Gives me stuff to fidget with and read (like rail pressure, various temps, etc...)

5) Costs under $500

6) Easy Install

Does such an animal exist?

Seems that Smarty (other than the price) comes the closest. I think if it were about $200 cheaper I'd jump in.

Appreciate any feedback!

I know!!! It's killing me that there is no speedo calibration for the Diablosport Predator 7130!!! I've read posts where they say that it's not going to get it in the future either because the hardware in the device itself doesn't allow it to get into the ABS area to set the speedo calibration.

To make things worse (better!), Thoroughbred has this and the puck combo for $360!!!

Having said all that, I might just go with it anyway. The combo is about 1/2 the price of the Smarty...

Thanks for the suggestion!

Tempting..... Buttt........ No thanks!

That doesn't do speedo anyway, does it?

I'm starting to lean towards the Diablosport Predator combo. Just too much bang for the buck.....

Enjoy hearing more from others with experience though.

you just need to go and get a dodge guy or someone with a star scan to recal your speedo, it is easy, takes only a moment

Kevin -- I know, I know. I just hate having the dealer having control over me.

Begin

It kinda frosts me that I can't change all these settings myself on my own truck. I'm a programmer by trade.... It's pretty sad when companies can make hard wired products like the britebox (honorable products, don't get me wrong!!!) which allow the user to do what they could do just with a software setting. Think about it -- a hardware gizmo to compensate for flipping value stored in a computer!!! That seems like a market is being created just because.......

End

Thanks for your thoughts. I think I'm leaning towards minimizing the speedo calibration "issue" per your advice and just going with the DS Predator. Thanks for your input!!!

Shane,

I can get the predator for $300 or the predator / puck combo for $360 delivered.

Where can I get a Smarty for $485 for my 2005 truck?

You can't. However, if you decided to go SMARTY, give Bob Wagner a call and see if he happens to have a used one lying around. When I tried it, he did and quoted me a good price, but I was not impressed and sent it back anyway.

As for starscans, most tranny shops will have one, also alot of performance shops should have one.

I think personally that the smarty has more potential, but you have to weigh where you are going with cost

Thanks guys. Gonna order the Predator. Now I have to decide if I want the downloader by itself or the combo. I guess I can always sell the puck if I don't want it as the combo discount is quite good....

Am I reading this right, you had a Smarty but were unimpressed by it? Was it because it was used, or somethign else turned you off?
