window tint

been planning on getting the windows tinted, the front ones , so they match the back

My question is, should i wait for warmer weather? is there any concern on NEW tint being applied in these cold temps? as i`m typing this, were prepared to get burried with over a foot of snow.

Thx for the help

Everyone will have their opinion on this topic, but I always prefer to apply tint in the warmer months of the year. The adhesive will dry much faster in direct sunlight. If you must have them tinted now, make sure to keep them rolled up for about a week to make sure the film fully cures to the windows. Also see what kind of film the shop uses and what kind of warranty they offer. Most reputable shops offer a lifetime warranty on their work. I found that 20% tint was a perfect match for the factory tint on the rest of the windows. I tinted them in the summer using Solargard window film. You may not want to do them this dark depending on the laws in your state, but 20% looks very nice. You can see a picture of my truck in my gallery. Good luck!

P.S. If you've never tinted windows before, this probably won't be a task you'd want to take on yourself, as it can be very tedious and it is very easy to mess up. One of my buddies used to own a tint shop, so I learned quite a bit from him and have tinted all of my windows myself up to this day.

LOL, yeah I took those pics when I first got it and the brake pads were still bedding in. Now it doesn't shed nearly as much dust. Hopefully once the weather clears up i'll be albe to wash it.

Older folks beware, that 20% is very hard to see out of at night unless you have very good vision. I have 20% on my E300, and if my mom drives it she has to roll down the window to make turns if there aren't many streetlights etc...

I want to tint my front windows to somewhat match the back as well, however I'm not sure I want to do 20% again, I may do 35%(which is the legal limit in FL for front windows). Who knows, I may say forget it and go for all out looks and match it at 20%. It's too bad film makers don't seem to make 25 or 30 % films..

Want to know what the legal tint limit is in your state? Look it up here: http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/

I was going to do my front 20% until I saw this. NO tint is legal in AK. Guess that is because it is pretty much dark all freak'n day in the winter.

I paid 75 bucks to have my two front windows tinted to 35%. Lifetime warranty against peeling, fading ect. One year old (today) and not even a scratch. And if you know me my truck sometimes is not the...ahhh...cleanest inside. But what Liteman said. My dads car is 20% and he has a heck of a time seeing at night.

I guess that's one thing I should have mentioned. Once in a while you will find a film manufacturer with a 25% or 30% film, but once you apply it to the window it is still comparable to a 20%. I wish there was a "true" 25% or 30% film too. That way it wouldn't be quite as big of a legal gamble. Here in MD the law is 35% on the front windows and you can have anything on the back windows of a Truck or SUV. I have always used 20% and haven't had any problems from the police. But if you go darker than 20%, you WILL eventually get stopped.

Down here the going rate for high quality/lifetime warranty film/work is about $25 a window, anywhere you go... $50 should 'git r dun' lol. Is that the most redneck saying you've ever heard? Here in sarasota there is a ford trucks club called 'git r dun' and they all have it across their windshield. I even saw someone with a gitrdun camo jacket on. LMFAO! Ford f150 git r dun club! Sorry I know that's off topic but had to share.

I had my fronts tinted, they are just a bit lighter than the rears but it's not noticable.
I also had a strip put on the top of the windshield that is a bit darker than the rear tint, that really helps cut down on glare from the sun!!
I paid $75

I haven't done the back glass yet, I'm thinking about the Glas Scapes grafix (the flag & eagle) but I'm not sure how it holds up to the elements since it's on the outside of the glass (mud, bird droppings, water, washing, etc)
I can get one installed for about $110.

Anyone have one they want to comment on??

TheMoose, what percentage did you have on your front windows? I'm curious to see how a 35% front looks with the rest..

To tell you the truth I don't know for sure what % it was, it's just a bit lighter though.
I'll see if I can take a pic that'll show the diffrence.
