Question Will my new cab clearance lights leak?

Over the weekend, I installed the MOPAR clearance lights on my new 07. I got to looking at my lights last night and I do see that the plastic part of the light is not against the cab. There is probably 1/16 inch of the gasket showing. I don't even know if it is possible to smash that gasket down enough to actually get outside the lights against the cab. I didn't want to overtighten the lights and crack the lens or strip the plastic screw inserts. What do you you all's lights look like? Can you see the gasket that much? Do you think these will leak? I'm a little worried now. I did look at a new truck on the lot and noticed that they have a different type of rubber piece between the lights and the cab. What do you all think?

When I installed mine, I put a bead of silicone around the light on the rubber gasket and some silicone in each screw hole for additional sealing. I haven't had any leaks, except for a couple of drips after it sat outside through the heaviest downpour of rain I've ever seen. Just haven't climbed back up there yet to see if I can spot where it found it's way in.

Yeah, I was thinking about putting a bead of silicon around the outside to fill the gap as well, but figured I would wait for a rain to see if they leak first. The problem with that is when I have to change a bulb, I'll have to mess with the silicon again - clean the old bead up and re-bead, but if that's what I gots to do, I guess I have no choice now

I considered the same thing about the silicone, but I'm just hoping the bulbs last a while. And with that last statement, I'll probably get home and find I now have a burnt out bulb.

from what i here just snug up the screws and as long as the gasket is touching you should be fine. that is what i did on mine and we have gotten probably 20 inches of rain since down here in texas and not a wet spot in the cab!

I snugged mine up pretty good, but didn't want to do overdo it. I'll wait for a good rain here in KS and see what happens. Hope I have the same luck as you.

Even if you use silicone and tighten them snug they will come off really easily!!!!

Hey guys do not use silicone to seal your lights to your cab it will be a pain to remove and will have to be cut if you will need to replace the lamps.

Instead go to any good Body Shop Supply or a Glass Shop and pick up a roll of a product called 3M Window-Weld Ribbon Black Sealer.

This is the same stuff the auto manufactures use to assemble the bodies; it is the sticky gum like adhesive that never hardens.

You might try to go to the glass shop first and they might give you enough to seal all of your lights, it comes in a kit to install windows and comes 15’ to a roll and what is not used they will just toss away.

Do you just run it around the outside of the lights or how do you apply it?

The only silicone I used was for the platic inserts, to try to hold them while installing the screws, I made sure they were snug, where it started to mash the gasket some, and left them alone.(no silicone) Weve had some pretty good downpours in the past month, not a single leak.

Make sure you clean the surface before installing them(just whipe all the dust/dirt, etc so the gasket seals well)

Yeah, I did the exact same thing. Haven't had a good rain yet to test them out, but I just wanted to get some thoughts in case they do leak.

I siliconed mine when I installed back in January. We have had record breaking rainfall in North Texas this year and I have not had a single leak. When I was installing the lights I remember thinking that I could replace the bulbs without taking the light off again. The holes I drilled are big enough and I can definately access them by just dropping the headliner.
