Will hooks in ceiling hold bed?
Will hooks in ceiling hold bed?
I am about to lift my bed off to do the AD150 install. Do you think that large hooks screwed into the studs in the ceiling of my garage will hold that kind of weight?
Well, first let's talk about what you have in the bed. If you have a spray in liner or tool boxes, I would not. To be safe, I'd put a 2X6 or 4X4 on top of the rafters, and run the hooks into that, so that the weight is more even.
Be careful. I would not work under it while it. Back the truck out or something.

I have done both, and I personally feel the bed removal is better/easier. You get the draw straw in where it sits with the tank in the truck.
I have done both, and that's just my personal feelings on the 'easier' part, but I have no 1/4 tank issues from the bed lift install vs. the tank drop.

I find lifting the bed easier also (only lift it 18-20"), but I have a hoist in the shop to lift it with. Plus it makes mounting the pump and everything easier
The bottom of the rafters aren't meant to carry weight but will probably work - just look at the nail plates at the joints. If you want to make sure... tie in to the top board which is meant to take the rated load of the roof. Craig
We've done three FASS system installs. It is pretty easy to remove the bed. What we seem to have done that works the best was take some straps off of the bed tie downs and hook them to my backhoe bucket and lift it off. Oh ya not everybody has those laying around. No a couple of guys lifted the bed off the first one we did.(8ft long box)
