will the 48RE hold up?

I just picked up a smarty Jr. (100hp setting) and a boost fooler. I also plan to upgrade to some mach 1.6 sticks. I was wondering if the stock 48re was capable of holding this much power? I plan to upgrade to an ATS converter, and maybe a valve body as well. The truck is not raced or used to tow really, just a daily driver that I want some decent power from.

My stock tranny held a Edge on three with a MP8 ran at 50% for about 6 months... I was pretty hard on it. I probably hit level 5 once every couple of weeks.

So... I would say it will for a while, depending on your driving habits. Defiantly will after a TC and VB upgrade, as long as you're not being crazy with it.

I blew my 48 in my 06 in less then 3 months with the Smarty Sr. on 9. I didn't baby it at all. Now my wife's 05 has been running the Smarty on 9 for over 60,000 miles and it's still holding up well. She doesn't tow much and she's alot easier on her truck then I am.

thanks guys. I Dont think i will be going past the smarty jr. and the mach 1.6 sticks so id imagine the converter and VB would be sufficient. What scares me though is I already had to replace my trans at 70k miles on a truck with only an intake and exhaust. It was covered under my extended warranty, but now that I will be modding it, when i craps out... I front the bill, lol.

Flux Injectors = Common Rail

Mach Injectors = 24v

Transmissions can be a crap shoot...

People break fully built one's, and some can go far many miles with the stock one.

Any time you add any amount of power over stock you run the risk of damaging something...

Stock trucks break all the time, turning up the power isn't making it any more reliable.

My 48re lasted 150K with my edge on level 5, exhaust and an intake. I tow medium-heavy up to 14K & work the truck off road. I decided to go for a rebuild before it stranded me, but there's no telling how much longer it could have lasted.

I will say this...I wish I had done the tranny 100K miles ago. Firm shifts, no wasted power, better in-town fuel economy...its like driving a different truck. You can throw all the power you want at that engine, but its all wasted until you do something with that tranny to put it to the ground!
