I see all sorts of talk about these shocks and I have a 2" leveling kit in my truck and have a set of these shocks on order myself. The thing I am wondering is why I need them?

I also hear all sorts of talk of how great they are but what do they really do and how do they make the truck feel?? Everyone claims they are great but why??

 

I'm interested in thoughts too. I plan to get these ordered and install them in the next month. I too have a 2" lift (F&R) and wonder if it is worth the $. They sure look good and seem to be high tec-

Because the ride is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than any other shock except the big boys (properly valved Kings, Fox's, etc).

 

This is what I am talking about? So much better how?

 

just because everyone else is doing it. jump on the bandwagon. lol.... I have several friends that have them and they rave about the smoothness of the ride compared to the stockers. I don't have them and will wait til my pro comp mx6's blow out and either get bilsteins or step up and get kings.

sorry for being a smart arese. yesterday sucked at the office and was reaaaaaaaally bored! LOL... Ihear nothing but good things on those shocks, so i would not have a singe problem going with them and enjoying the ride.

Like stated above the ride is honestly really good.

 

The ride is much better than stock and honestly about the best you can get unless you go to a custom valved shock from Thuren, Carli, Lorenz, etc.

 

I will be installing a set this weekend. Looking forward to a smoother ride

 

Blisteins are worth it. My truck is stock with 46k miles, had it now for 2 years, everyday driver and tow a #6500 boat in the summer. I didn't really notice the front diving during breaking or excessive bouncing but the truck just didn't want to stay real straight when hitting potholes and stuff and just didn't seem to want to stay on the road as easy as before (thought it was just the operator ). After the new Blisteins were installed BIG difference in handling and road feel. Eliminated any sway by 25%, real stable and easier to drive, hitting potholes no longer shifts the truck 2-3" one way or another, the same potholes feel about 1/2 the size now, ABS no longer engages if hitting a pothole under braking conditions. I was concerned that it was too soon for new shocks but really could have installed 35k. Buy the way I got the blue & yellow from Genos FYI.

 

Thanks for the full report! Thats what I was looking for a real opinion on how they helped. I have a pair on order and just wondered if I would feel an improvment after the install or will it be a waste of money and time.

Pretty subjective, IMO

I still have the original shocks on the '98 with 250K miles on in, and they seem to work fine.

I installed Bilstein 5100s on all 4 corners of the '05 when it was fairly new - and it rides just fine, too.

I recommend them, but don't expect a huge difference.

 

To each his own. A few years ago I decided my 98 with 150,000 was surely in need of shocks. I did the research and most people were highly recommending the Bilsteins, so I ordered a set. They helped slightly when pulling my trailer, but made the empty ride much worse. When I need to replace my 06 shocks, I go another direction.
