Made some calls... If I can get the E-Locker local and find a shop to install it's going in ASAP.

SB Clutch and gauge install and I'm done! LOL then I'll have a truck as good as my old 97 gen 2! At this point it will be easier to move out of the snow belt (read salt destruction) so I can keep them 20 years.

Believe me guys I have been wheeling for a long time I know how to drive and that thing does not work at slow speed.
I have tired every way possible to get it to hook up but nothing

*NOTE* this is all on ice and snow I don't not really take my truck off road it's a tow beast.

I am going to pull the cover...... actually I should make the dealer do it. I know something must be wrong because some of you guy are having no problems and some are like mine.

I have never dumped the clutch on it to see if it lays two patch's.

I thought the only LSD avaliable for us was the AAM gear driven unit. Now the GM 11.5 unit came with a clutch style posi (It has either clutches/springs/plates or it might have some weird weights & stuff). Check out this page:

This posi worked great for me in my other truck on dry land or fun-with-rain day. I have a big block Buick in a 68 Buick Sportwagon. I put a 12 bolt in it and I got the Detroit truetrac (http://www.detroitlocker.com/DT.htm#) which is the same design. It always burns 2 tires. But, I don't think Reiderracing.com recommends it for any off roading.

Brake Modulation ????

There seems to be alot of confusion about BRAKE MODULATION and LSD's.
I am reading alot of posts about how to make LSD's "engage" or "lock-up". As far as I know, NO LSD diffs (wether clutch type or heilical worm gear) lock up or engage. People seem to be confusing the LSD with the "gov-lok" locking diff that was available in stock chevy's. The GOV-LOK locks up mechanically when one wheel spins faster than the other, and if you have the E-brake engaged a click or two it will stay locked up, otherwise it automatically un-locks when you let off the throttle.

BRAKE MODULATION using the peddle with LSD's.
This is usually only effective on vehicals with 4 channel ABS (ours only have 3channel) when going very slow or already stopped and one tire is spinning (or two if they are on different axles).

BOTTOM LINE: BRAKE MODULATION IS NOT A VERY EFFECTIVE TRACTION GAINING PRACTIVE FOR OUR TRUCKS, especially if you are moving (like up the driveway).

If you already have momentum...there is no need for brake modulation with our LSD unit. It is gear driven and does transfer PLEANTY (almost 100%) if both wheel start spinning at the same time.

I am dumb founded by all the discrepency with this unit. I have two around me daily that perform identical.

Our ABS will have no effect on brake modulation at slow speeds. I have no idea why that came up????

53 ******: It seems like from what you described you should physically check to see if you actually have one, you can do it without pulling the diff cover, just jack up both back tires and put it in N, if both tires spin the same direction you have the LSD, if they spin opposite directions it is open....hope this helps.......

Wrong...

Gear driven LSD the wheels turn opposite when spun in that case exactely like an open diff.

You must pull the cover to see if you have it...if you can't tell by driving.

Yep that "trick" only works for clutch style because of the preload of the clutches. Once had a guy tell me that if I wanted to find out if I had posi or not to jack up one wheel and put it in drive, if the truck drove off the jack it had posi.

P.S. The smileys illustrate my face when he did it to his truck.

For what it's worth, my '03 has the LS differential and it will ALWAYS spin both tires regardless of what the driving surface is (even if each tire is on a different driving surface like grass and concrete). I've never had a limited slip differential that works as well as this one.
