Question Why wont both my tires spin if my truck has a limited slip??

NO matter what I do I can not get my trucks limited slip to engage!!!

My drive way has a really small slop to it and if I don't keep my speed as I go up it my truck will just sit there and spin one rear tire, it does not matter if I apply some brake or give it some gas it will just sit there and spin one tire.

Anybody else notice this???

Are you sure it has a posi? My last trruck I had a posi installed. The posi would always easily burn both tires. It would actually never not burn two tires. My new truck came with an open rear, but I took the posi back out of the old truck for this one.

You dont have a posi, you have limited slip. Those things can wear out in no time...

Limited Slips can last a lifetime in huge HP cars. Why would ours go out so quickly ?!?!?!

The don't think the aam posi wears out. They are gear driven. By the way, they are heavier than a sumo wrestler. I always had such great success with my posi. But, I have heard that they are not as good off road as a clutch-type posi (like the Dana rears). I read some guys would give their e-brake one click to give resistance to let the posi send power to both wheels.

It does work at slow speeds. But given its design, Gear driven Limited slip, it is a different animal than the clutch style. The clutch style would give power to the wheel with most traction with very little torque, basically ones one tire breaks free, the clutch sends power to the other. the gear driven, are a bit different and it takes some resistance to get them to send power over (at low wheel speed). If you start spinning, and dont have lots of wheel speed on the tire w/ less traction, it will not engage. If you add some bite to that tire, ebrake, foot brake, or baby the pedal, it should cause the limited to react.

If you truly do have a limited (May want to mechanically verify.), once you start to spin, stay on the go pedal, and add a little resistance with the woah pedal, and you should have both spinning in no time..

I can go places in 2wd w/ my limited that most people cant go in 4wd w/ an open.

I few storms ago I sat at the bottom of my driveway and gave it all I could.....I tried power braking, gassing it hard, staying on it hard, the only thing I did not do was click the e-brake a little.
I milked it for a long time in a bunch of different ways and it never would hook up finally had to back up and make a run for it
I am really disappointed in this set-up I want my Dana Axle back from my 01 lest it would lock up and get me to the top of my driveway

Whats wrong with your 4x4? Seems to me just pop it in and out and you would have no issues

Seems to me if I paid for a limited slip I want it to work. Sure he has 4x4 but he wants what he paid for. My Z71 had a bs locking dif, but it would lock. Going up a driveway at slow speeds should be no problem for a decent locker. Love my D80.

Men, if yours won't spin both wheels then try slightly engaging the emergency brake. That is supposed to make it lock up somehow. I never had that issue though....
