Why are my front wheel bearings special?

my truck is a 2004.5 with 276,000 km on it and ive never touched the front wheel bearings. they spin ok in the air and have very little if no play. they dont make noise yet everyone else has one go out every 24,000 km. are mine special?

The stock wheel bearings are actually pretty stout. They've held up to the beatings the guys at Carli put them through in their R&D and in Baja for quite a while. Of course, those will need replacing more often then say someone who drives on the street only. Even in your case, seeing little off road, I'm not surprised they've lasted this long. A way to extend the life some is to pull the ABS wheel speed sensor on the hub and pack it full of grease. Now your hubs are greaseable .
