Why dont we use a seperate ECM when we want to add chips to avoid VOIDing warrantee
After reading all of these stories about dealers voiding warrentee's I was thinking about buying a seperate ecm and using that one for bombing. I know its possible since people used to buy seperate ones and ship them to marco and he would then turn them into MADecm's on 2nd gen's.
Don't all electronic power adders (downloaders, programers) leave an imprint or change stock settings on ecm's even when you return it "back to stock" have it be # of starts, over boost, ect. that can be detected buy someone who knows what to look for if trying to void a warranty.
I already realize I already voided my entire truck's warrantee buy adding fog lights and Peak antifreeze.
As for all of you "gotta pay to play" and "you are your own warranty station" SAVE IT !!!
Does this sound like it could work for us who only want the added power to be able to tow 55mph up a grade w/o being at WOT at 2800rpm's
Thanks

thats a good idea, but what is a new ecm worth, i mean if they are only like 1000 dollars, i would buy one, but i who the older 2nd gen were cheap, but there ecm also did not control the injector and other stuff that the new CR motors have to run like they do. But if i could get one for a grand or less, i would totally buy one just so they leave me alone. I get away with it because my friend works at the dealer but, he is quiting soon, so i have to find a way around this.

I've heard some dealers know to look for key starts. How many times the truck has been started. I think the average is 500/yr. If you go in with an 04 with 200 key starts they're going to ask questions. It would be possible to carry the original ECM for just in case. How many parts should I carry around for just in case. When the list starts to get long I might as well buy something else. It becomes too inconvenient. IMO

The dealer only trips out when it displays 5 key starts, which is what usually happens when you return your truck back to stock when using a downloader. They wouldnt bring up the fact if you had a few hundred.... besides think about how many you have on your stock emc today, mine already has 3 years of starts on it.
