Whoops...did it again.

I guess I should have waited till my Opie Bypass showed up...

BUT...I cranked it up again after some wastegate fine tuning...higher than ever before and let er' rip.

3rd gear....3700 rpms....87 psi boost and climbing hard and POP.

Blew the radiator cap....filled the overflow tank to the max....burped coolant all over the engine compartment...and water temps skyrocketed to 230.

The truck will stay at 210 LIMPING now.

I think I wasted my thermostat????

I need to find a way to keep the engine from twisting so much now...I keep smacking the tranny crossmember with my 5" exhaust....

It has almost a 1/2" of clearance....ouch. Sounds cool though under WOT!

Anyone else done this to the coolant system? I think my head gasket is ok...

My truck does that everytime I turn up the timing a little bit. I run with 0 extra timing so I can keep the antifreeze in it. I hope you didnt take out a head gasket

Do you have a bypass? I am asusming your freeze plugs are blocked.

I will look in my coolant for oil and my oil for coolant...

It started fine this morning and had zero signs of coolant-white smoke inm the exhaust.

No on the Opie kit, but I do have the LazarSmith BOE kit sitting in my office. Just need a little time to put her in. After reading about freeze plugs, and atleast one soft plug letting go and trashing a motor I think these kits are a great safe guard. With more and more people turning up the rpms and power I think they are going to become very common.
Hope it was only something simple.

Thats funny I wish I could only blow the radiator cap. Twice now I have blown the freeze plugs in head under valve cover. Fixed that problem now but when I sled pull still gets real hot like 235 and as soon as I pull of the track it goes back down to 205 real quick. That tells me that the antifreeze isn't that hot but moving to quick to cool head = overspeeding water pump. I can't make up my mind if I want to put electric pump on or Opies, or maybe make something like Opies and put a 1/2 turn valve on it and just crack it when pulling.

Tell me more about this opie unit. Maybe that is the answer I am looking for. My freeze plugs are still all stock (touch wood)

So this sounds much better than my running it low on coolant,, lol. How much is your unit worth? And would it be a good unit for my application?

I run Opie's bypass, and it works very well for me. Very high quality piece. Where his system taps into the water jacket, it keeps proper coolant flow through the block and head.

cquestad - You may want to think about chaining down the engine. I have chains install across mine, so that it limits the max amount of flex. You still get the good daily driver vibration control, but when on it hard it keeps the engine from twisting as much.

Opie's kit is far more than just an orifice...it is pressure AND temp controlled. There is a reason it costs what it does.

No offense to anyone...but this system has been tested with as many thermometer/pressure gauges that can fit in the head. Proof is in the pudding.

Paul...tell me more about the chains? Where do they connect...I am out of space...lol.

Put a new cap and thermo in..will report back shortley after I figure out how to get ~1.5-gallons of coolant out of my overflow and back into my radiator.

LOL
