injectors, head gasket, dropped valve seat.... Wheres are you hearing the popping from? Under the hood, out the exhaust?Any fuel in the oil? Does it run fine or have a miss or stumble?

he was running down the highway when he heard something pop and turbo bark. he was not pulling anything just driving down the highway
he removed the intake horn and there is oil in the intake we removed the injectors going to cheked the injector nozzle
its misses and it sounds like its running on a couple of cylinders you can hear in the engine
what do i need to check on the turbo to see if its the problem?
oil all over the turbo
would a bad turbo make it blow white smoke at idle
thanks guys

its the turbo if you have oil in the intake and oil all over it. the reason for the white smoke is the oil in the cylinders. better hope their is no pieces of the turbo in the motor.

sounds like a dropped valve seat. pull the valve cover bump the engine around and check for the valve that doesn't come back up like it should. For the miss, do an injector cut out test and find the culprit that way... it will probably be the cyl with the dropped valve seat. That dropped seat could very well have broken apart and found its way to the turbo taking it out along the way. I've seen it happen... so that is my guess.

Hate to say it but 03-04 is infamous for dropping valve seats from egts that aren't all that high but sustained.
Was he racing? Willing to bet he had a few runs at 1400*+, the head got heatsoaked pretty good and loosened the seats up some and at least one dropped along the way.

No he was not racing We check the turbo it's not covered in oil it's clean
we will check the valves after work
it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinder
the code that i can't figure out is a p0652
thanks guys

last time i dropped a valve it sounded like a rod knocking. check the wiring on the injectors something may have shorted out or came loose. since that code is an electrical one might be it

Just did a little digging in the factory service manual and the things listed as a cause for that code are
rail pressure sensor
a/c pressure sensor
camshaft sensor
map sensor
To check each, clear the code and disconnect one at a time and turn the ignition on.You will throw a code for the disconnected sensor. But if the bad one is disconnected the p0652 will not be present.
Other than a sensor being an issue,it can be in the wiring harness(shorted somewhere). I can list the pin #'s from the ecm and the steps to chase it down if needed.
