The sooner you upgrade the trans, the sooner you have the peace of mind that it is done. With just a programmer you can push the auto past its limits. And if you haven't done so yet, I'd make sure to run a set of gauges...

Another thing to note about a built tranny is you are able to get the HP that you already have to the ground with more efficiency. So not only do you have peace of mind, but you also have the ability to use the full power.

If you havn't gotten gauges yet, that should be your next step. Then start saving for a tranny

Gauges & exhaust if you don't have them then start saving $$$ for the trans.

FWIW Not that it is the most correct way, but this is the Order I did things
Gauges
Intake & Exhaust
Tranny
EZ & Smarty

Next up
Head studs, springs, pushrods, and injectors
then Turbo or Turbos
Then...who knows, but I bet it will be something to go faster!

I would say there are a few big names Goerend, Suncoast, DTT
Unless you are going to do the work yourself, I would say find someone local, or fairly close to you to do the work so if you ever have issues you can get it fixed easier. they all have guys around the country authorized to do work for them I believe.

Depending on Where you are in Texas there is a name I have seen mentioned several times somewhere in that big'ole state. For the life of me I don't remember who or where, bt maybe someone will pop up with it here.

so it is better to do that instead of sending your tranny off to get rebuilt?

all preference I think, but also would depend on the kinda shape yours is in. Mine only had 9k miles on it so I just had all the parts added to mine. I did not need to change clutches as they were still in good shape, and had not been abused yet.

Also depends on the amount of time you want your truck down for. Sending it away would take some time. Additionally, if you are able to do it locally, you have a place to take it to again if something does not work correctly. Personal preference to me is always find a place locally...

If you live anywhere close to the DFW Metroplex or even say a hundred or more miles out.........and think you want a Built DTT trans....or a Goerend's trans (installed only), give James Northum a call. His number is (972) 467-3702. His shop is in Midlothian, TX. IMO, he does excellent transmission work.
