It only takes like 5 minutes, but the Airdog 150 makes all these crazy noises the whole time. Is that normal? Usually you can barely hear it.

Thanx.

Mine makes noises when pragramming with my predator. It is a little loud because the truck is off, but I dont think that the noise is any different from normal noise.

Does the pump need diesel to be flowing through it as a sort of engine coolant or anything?

Thanx guys.

I dont have the airdog but my pump makes alot of noise also. its sounds like fuel sloshing in the tank on mine when I change the settings. I have never heard of unplugging it I guess I missed that part somewhere

I don't hear my Glacier pump run but I do hear the relay going on and off.

Apparently when the Smarty is updating the ECM it pulses the fuel pump. I guess when Dodge flashes the ECM this would happen as well.

I don't think it would hurt to unplug the pump but the way I look at it is that the fuel pump would be pulsed with the stock system anyway and you can't easily unhook it either.

I always unplug the pump before I do a sw change, the fass doesn't make any different noises but I don't like it running when the engine isn't running for long(4-5min) periods of time. Nobody has told me to do this but thats just what I do.

the fuse should be pulled when loading a new software. This goes for the fass sytem too. The current draw can cause a loss of communication.

Thanks

Well that sucks! My FASS does run for a minute or so twice during loading new software, but so far has not caused any problems. Having to disconnect FASS everytime I want to load a new program would be very irritating. Does that mean anyone should disconnect their LP when loading Smarty software?

Jon. Thats cool then. This is more of a heads up for "what if" something is causing an issue.

Thanks and get Curtis on the road

As soon as my truck gets to 61% it cycles the f/p relay on-off every second. I unplug the fuel pump so I do not have any download issues. I also pull the 2 fuses for the ABS and unplug the Edge datalink connector. Better safe than sorry after that Diablo ordeal.

Any way you could disconnect it up in the engine compartment with the FASS? I'm running a Glacier pump and I'll just disconnect the relay instead of crawling under the truck. That wouldn't be very hard to do at all, certainly a lot less than some other downloaders require.

Bob,

Does the pump get pulsed like this when Dodge flashes the ECM?

I believe it would be more of a problem with the stock lift pumps since the power comes directly from the ECM. With most aftermarket pumps the main power comes from the battery and the ECM only controls the trigger to the relay.

I have yet to unplug my stock lift pump while updating the ECM.
