Not another OIL WAR THREAD!!! AHHH!!!!
Seriously
That said... I use schaffers and an amsoil bypass filter and do lab analysis to make sure everything is OK. We can argue all we want on the oil, but the lab analysis tell me how the oil is really doing and when to change it... money well spent.

I dont know really. Guess it is all about what chemistry you are comfortable with. I personally choose Shell Rotella T, Low ash formula. And that is the same oil we put in our Ford John Deer and Tafe Tractors.

How have you proven it many times over?
I've looked at hundreds of UOA's and the Amsoil does no better or worse than a Wal Mart dino based oil, whether it be normal or extended OCI's.
It's fine that you like Amsoil, but to claim that it's the miracle oil is stretching things a bit.

You're right, I am more than slightly biased to the synthetics. But here are a couple of examples of real world results on my 1994:
truck had a horrible grind when shifting, especially third. I mean bad. It didn't matter how you shifted. Changed to Amsoil severe gear and after about 150mi, grind is totally and completely gone and shifts almost too easy.
I have tried all the additives, MMO, Lucas, TCW3, PS, etc. Never seemed to make a difference. I recently tried the Amsoil diesel concentrate and the motor is actually quieter and idles smoother. We'll see about mileage gains as I am a skeptic here.

I have to agree with Shawn. I have used AME 15W40 in my truck and actually had better results with Delo- so I switched back. I performed a UOA, and the numbers were better with Delo. Everyone has to use what works for them.

Everyone that is ANTI CJ is going to have to probably use it sooner or later. I wish I had bought a new 6.7 now instead of a new 5.9, then I would not have a choice and fewer headaches!! LOLOL

I use Mobil 1 Turbo diesel oil or Delvac on occasion. As long as you change it on a regular basis it really doesn't matter what you use. As far as I'm concerned, there are waaaay to many guys who waste their time and their breath on UOA's and fancy specialty oils.
I've seen way too many Cummins 5.9's run forever on the cheapest oil that you can buy to acutally believe that you might be killing your truck by not using ultra expensive oils, bypass systems, UOA, and extended intervals. If it makes a guy feel better to do all that, then that's fine. However, I don't believe for one second that it's imperative.

Not if you have a big enough stockpile of CI4+-then you can go right on to the next formulation

I think if you took a sheet of paper and wrote every brand mentioned on this thread, put it on a dart board, and threw a dart at the paper while blindfolded, and used the oil the dart chose, at the end of the life of a 5.9, you would have very little difference in engine wear.(based on proper maintenance). The only real debate I see is the synthetic versus dino. Oil qualities these days are exceptional.
I wouldn't even use synthetic if it didn't get so cold here in the winter.
And why is everyone so anti-CJ?

Read this article.....
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf
One reason is basically it cuts oil life in half because it doesn't provide the protection of the CI-4+ addititives.
