what a waste of money...
what a waste of money...
this is gonna be long but its about my neighbor blowing alot of money on junk.
he has an 04.5 truck with an awesome 3" procomp lift on 35" BFG's, the truck looks great, but he is slowly ruining it because of marketing ploys. he currently runs an edge EZ for the 3rd gen on his truck and its a strong lil runner. but he just spent a whopping $2200 on banks stuff...
because the guy from banks on the phone told him with all this stuff his warranty on the truck will never be voided. come to find out this guy on the phone must be an idiot, because he told my neighbor that he must replace his intercooler for better cooling properties, and that the 3rd gen intercooler will bolt right in to my 2nd gen truck and give me better cooling over the stock 2nd gen IC.
here is what he ordered:
4" catback exhaust-well its nothing but a louder muffler and new 4" pipe...it keeps the cat, and the pipe is still 4"...not alot of cooling going on there
drop in K&N filter-Banks told him that there is no need to replace the air box and/or inlet tube, just go buy a K&N drop in filter ($54) and that was more than enough air
banks IC-his stock one is metal...and the new one is metal too, not a whole lot different about it and from what i can tell its basically the same size
6 gun tuner with powerPDA-this computer requires all the EGT probes and tapping into sensors etc, alot of wiring to hook up.
banks torque convertor and shift modules- he needs to find a reputable tranny shop to install these so banks will cover the warranty
so thats what he gets for $2200 bucks...when he coulda got an edge juice with attitude, afe intake, full 4 or 5" exhaust, and a better quailty TC
sorry for the rant...but it just drives me nuts when he wastes his money on this stuff, knowing 100% that i research this stuff all day long, reading thread after thread about whats the best stuff out there.

"if youre gonna be dumb, u gotta be tough. if u get knocked down u gotta get back up. im not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but i know enough, to know, if youre gonna be dumb u gotta be tough!"
that guy sounds like my dad he won't listen to a thing i say about his 01 CTD still doesn't have a FP gauge (130,000+ mi.) and keeps going through track bars but wont order one from don or DT but finally did get him to order a dss. just some people
ok a guy told me: if you want huge HP, go with BANKS....
ok, i didnt say much, ...we had our 12 valve considerably bombed back then...
he bougt a 04 CTD and went with banks.... not much to say, exept that he spent lots of money, but didnt get the power of a 12 valve, with only a home grinded cam plate.... then he called banks and told him, that a 180 12valve got him, then they just told him to put on a bigger exhaust.... hmmm ok
he said: that he-d replace the intercooler before upgrading to a bigger turbo.... well i-d say he needs fuel first....

It's amazing how many people out there think that Banks is the best thing since sliced bread. I know a guy with banks crap on his Ford F250 Social Disease and some of my freinds seem to think its the best stuff to make a truck fast and they tell me to get it for mine. When ever that discussion comes up I usually just laugh at them. Oh well I guess some people were intended to buy their products, just not me.

Banks was revolutionary in the industry, and I haven't ever heard anything the matter with them except that they're over priced.
That said, they are over priced. Still, they're far from selling bolt-on-turbo whistle kits, fuel Tornado's, and stickers only. They're not anything to sneeze at.

i talked to them years ago on 1st gen truck. they were bragging about 0 to 60 low 12 sec. with about 1800 bucks. i had 0 to 60 mid 9s and had spent about 200 bucks. i did buy their aftercooler though.
I can only Ask that members and online viewers. Banks Product"s get a bad rap every time some sale Guy will try this type of sales pitch at the end of the month/Quarter/Year, I will not comment conversation. Some sales men at any company will use methods that are not above reproach,This is a area that Banks has left the Door open for Companies Like T&C to be master Distributor of their product and offer customer service that is expected in this competitive market. We are available 24/7 to and answer technical questions.
Yes we Don"t offer any of Banks Transmission Parts. This area Banks needs to play Catch-up.

I try not to worry about what people spend their money on as I've "wasted" enough money in my lifetime by virtue of that old 20/20 hindsight to have three trucks in the driveway. He got expensive parts that will probably suit him just fine. To him it makes 600hp and he goes through life happy. Stupid people are always happier than smart people because they don't know or understand the difference.

I do not have any first hand experience or knowledge in this as my truck is stock. However if I were to start adding I would start looking at what some proven competitors have done. take the KORE race truck for instance. It has Banks stuf on it. It it was that bad why would they do it, I bet they know better. I grant that brand loyalty is a stong motivator, so is price, but that should result in making choices not puting down the rest. ...I think...
