Hey all you technohorsepower stump pullin wizards. I have an 06 3500 4WD handshaker dually. I want to put guages on now.Seems like if you are pulling a heavy load up a long mountain, it would be prudent to have, even on a stock truck. After warranty or mileage out (or maybe before) I may go with a mild to moderate hp tq upgrade box. Are quages nowadays mechanical? I hear isspro bandied about quite a bit. Or should i just get one of the ? multi-guage box like edge has? I really like old fashioned analog guages best. Where is a good vendor to check them all out. And question #2- I read an article on Holset? site about our turbo and turbos in general. I know it is more accurate to put egt probe ? thermocoupler in front of turbo, but the factory says maybe not a good idea because if breaks loose pre- turbo-- money money. I would rather have an accurate reading but would'nt want to replace turbo. Anybody ever heard of one destroying a turbo? Thanks for any advice and pics of cool looking guage set.
Seems to be on here, that the two most popular are Issopro or Dipricol's as well as Autometer, though not quite as popular. Both very good, quality gauges, and very close mathc to the trucks stock guages, even at Night, me personally I Prefer the look of the Dipricols better. There are many places to get them Genosgarage.com, dieselperformanceparts.com, and many more. Ebay usually has some too. You will also find a few different options you have when it comes ot mounting them, either on the A-Pillar, overhead or steering column are a few. The Monitors are very good too, and make it very simple to have all them in one quick spot to monitor you temps and pressures, but you siad you prefer the analog look. Hope this helps.

As far as gauges go check out the DTR store right here. You can also check out www.genosgarage.com They have everything you need guage wise to get you all set up. As far as the EGT probe It's quite rare to have it break off and ruin your turbo. Many people on here have them mounted pre-turbo.
I got my Isspro boost (60psi), pyro, and tranny temp gauge from genosgarage and they match the factory lighting at night perfectly. So far they have given me no problems. Price was good too, I think I paid about $350 for the 3 gauges, the A-pillar mount color matched to my interior, and shipping.

I like the look of the Di Pricol Optix gauges, I think they're the best match to our 06 gauges. I was going to order an I-pillar set from Diesel Manor but there's some issues with the mount fit on the 06, now I'm going to wait till they get that figured out.
My truck's bone stock, I might hold off on the gauges a while and get the Edge with Attitude or one of the other programers that has the gauges built in. I'm a little worried these things will pretty much be the end of the warranty though, might hold off 3 years till the warranty is done (and the truck's paid for!)

Just installed 3 in 1 digital guage from Dakota Digital and really like the guage. Very easy to read and can program in max egt, Tranny temps, and boost warning #s. Can also calibrate the boost for altitude etc (manual or automatic) Could go on but very happy with the simplicity (one glance) of the one guage set up. Mounted below the grab handle.

NelRod - I thought long & hard about the gauge issue with my '05 CTD: I prefer analog for the looks and ability to choose mechanical or digital for low cost. I decided I needed mechanical fuel pressure (lets me know how the lift pump is doing), pyrometer (preturbo I believe is more useful), mechanical boost (fun to watch in concert with pyro), mechanical oil pressure (don't trust factory "idiot" gauge) and electric oil temperature (plumbed to turbine oil port for proper shutdown)... I didn't like any of the available mounting schemes, so I designed & fabricated my own of of aluminum. The fuel pressure mounts on the cowl (clearing the hood & both wipers) in full view. Looks great from all angles
The other four sit on the dash over the glovebox, facing me. I can remove all of the guages & you'd never know they were there - no holes, etc. Very functional and gets lots of attention
Check out my pics & let me know what you think!
I used AutoMeter Ultra-Lite II gauges, since they matched stock quite well day & night.

I noticed no one mentioned the Edge Juice with Attitude, why is that? And from what I gather as a newbie you should install a min of A Pyrometer, boost guage, and tranny temperature guage if you pulling any thing. I am pulling a 9000# boat and want to add gauges but it seems that they come in sets of 3's. And then the Edge Juice seems to have everything but the Pyrometer (whatever it is).
I didnt mention the Edge W/ Attitude or any others specifically, I just said monitors. Attitude is a very good choice, since it can be programme dto automatically defuel at a pre-set by yourself temp. The pyrometer is the EGT, or Exhaust Gas Temperature. Most people say, when you do the math with a box and 3 analog gauges, with mounts, or attitude, its about the same cost. Your choice, mostly boils down to preference on looks and what you are trying to achieve, and if you want the safety features. Just my .02, I am no expert.

When I installed gauges in my 04.5 I went with the Autometer Ultralights. I prefer the racey look myself, besides the 04.5 hase stainless looking trim on the dash so they complimented each other. Good gauge's also. Check out the dash of any type of race car, the gauges you will see are the Autometer brand. The only bad thing I might have to say about the Isspro gauges is that the boost gauge seems to have a habit of rattling/making noise. But I have read that if you put a restriction in the boost line it helps quiet it down.
