What temp. should i set my defueling leave.

I have a 04 with a Bully Dog PMT staked with a Torque dog(Van Aaken) box, 5" turbo back exhaust, afe mega cannon, and a afe bladerunner. Right now i have my defueling level set at 1350; is that a safe setting or can it go high without hurting anything. Right now i hit the defueling level way to quick if i am on the highway trying to haul.

I would like to know this as well. I was hauling a 10k skid steer up a long 3-8% grade today and my edge kept going on as have it set at 1330. I was running on level two when it was beeping, so for curiosity i switched it to stock and kept my throttle steady (immediately noticed power cut) and the egt's held constant at about 1310-1315, so i would think 1350 would be safe, temp? We need an expert's opinion.

I'm pretty sure that 1250 is max continuous. Anything over that I wouldn't stay there to long.

I have pegged my pyro at 1600 for over 14 seconds many times. But CR are different that the VP44 trucks and I would say 1400 continus,I am not an expert but thats my opinion (someone correct me if I'am wrong). What I did to lower my EGT is load the Aftermarket Turbo/Stock Injectors into my smarty and 1400 is pushing it hard now, I don't know if Bullydog offers that.

t-boe i think the cummins run hotter than that, i see 1250 ALL THE TIME just running on level one and two w/edge pulling 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer. I know the older powerstrokes at 1250-1300 you better be letting off and only run at those temps for short periods. But the newer cummins run 1250-1300 all day. I think much over 13-1350 i would be letting off a bit. Just my $.02.

i have been told you can run the 04.5 and newer trucks 1350-1400 deg. all day long.

I agree if your are up to or over 1350 for more than about 10 seconds you are dancing with the Melted devil.

The 04.5 and newer engines can easily surpass 1400 degrees STOCK AND UNLOADED on a long hill. Also, more of these engines are failing than ever before. If it was mine, 1250 would be the highest sustained temperature I would ever run, with quick trips to no higher than 1400.

I pulled a 5 mile grade at 1350 egt's and it was 105 deg. outside with the ac on, got to the top pulled over tranny was at 260 deg... the truck idled up to 1000 rpm for about a minute to cool the turbo down and the motor never missed a beat. these newer trucks were made to run hotter...

I know both my 05 and 06 could hit 1450* bone stock on a long grade....so if the stock programming lets it hit there, i couldnt imagine it's too bad.....i'd say 1400*

The problem is that dealers are having to replace more of these 04.5 and newer engines than ever before. It's not so bad on warranty, but I wouldn't want to be paying for it.

1350 max is safe and conservative, I wouldn't want it there very long though. I've heard of pullers and racers getting up to 1600 for short bursts.

I didn't see a turbo listed in your mods. It sounds like you need more air to balance out the additional fuel (it will also get you another 50 HP). I'd go with a 62 for best driveability. .
